What was once frozen is now melted. The rising sea levels had to go somewhere. In past civilizations, man persevered because after these floods, the waters always receded. Until they didn't.

Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

Publisher's Summary
Allison has a secret. Like any farm wife, she is prepared for bad storms, bad times, and bad luck. But even her husband is unaware she is more prepared than the average farm wife. (But don't ever call Allison a prepper!)
Riley and Will are motorcycle buddies on a mission to rescue Riley's nephew, who's been kidnapped by his father. When a solar flare throws them all together, there's going to be problems.

Prepared, but not a prep-per...
Allison is such a quirky character, she cares about people deeply but prefers not to meet a lot of people, she's been stockpiling supplies for years 'just in case' but objects to being called a prep-per. Surrounding her are a bunch of people from all walks of life who all come together to create safety for themselves and each other.
This book is full of characters who show both the best and worst of people. The story is well written and I loved listening to it. The narration is well done, great character voices and the tone and pace of the delivery worked well for the different phases of the book.
There's some great information on survival wrapped up in this story, enough detail to make it feel real without overwhelming us with information not needed for the plot.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Great Story
Love the author’s spin on the end of the world. It was so hard when I had to stop listening for annoying things like work. I mean how could I work when the world was ending? I love the characters and how Allison helped out her neighbors in need. Will and Riley cracked me up. I was completed captivated through the whole book and will definitely be looking for the next book. The narration was spot on perfect, he really did a great job bringing the book to life

Entertaining story with great characters
This is an enjoyable story with a bit of a different slant on the usual prepper books. A sun flare plays havoc with society and it brings out both the worst and best in people. Alison denies being a prepper but she has enough “just in case” supplies packed away to last a year, and her organizational and herbal skills help her neighbors, and the town as a whole, prepare to survive the trying times ahead. Will and Riley are also great characters and the repartee between the two of them is very entertaining. The narrator brings the story to life and gives both the males and females individual voices. He fits the book well and sets the pace just right. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to seeing how things progress in the next book in the series.

Hoping for a book 2
This book had a different slant on other prepper books I have read. I liked that in this book it is about people helping people. Of course there are always the bad and greedy people of the world. I did not like the short blurb in it about politics. Glad they did not go on any longer about that. It is amazing what Allison does. Cannot wait or hoping for a book 2.

Allison the prepper
3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. This is a prepper book. If you've read one, you've read them all, basically. Allison's a prepper but she's highly offended when she's called a prepper. Why?....I have no idea. It's a GOOD thing. She's not a very likable character, to me. She's got to be tough in this world, I understand that, but she's just not likable as a character. If she's was to be killed off, I'd be ok with it and I don't think that's a good thing to think of the main character of a book. lol There's a lot of prepping in this book, even down to the little details of step by step canning. It was a good book, if you like prepping. I like everyone else's story lines, except Allison. They are what made me like the book so much and why I will continue onto book 2.
The narrator was superb! I've heard him before and he always does a fantastic job.

Solar Flare drama
This story follows the lives of a few characters, during, and after a solar flare events which knocks out power. The world becomes a harder and dangerous place where people will struggle to survive. There is some action in this book, but it's not what I would call fast-paced. The characters spend a lot of time talking and planning. However, this is only part one of a series, so perhaps the following books will see the characters having to deal with even more difficult situation. I felt the writing was good and the narrator also did a fine job with the audio and production.

They will do whatever it takes.
After the effects of a Coronal Mass Ejection not the earth, panic descends on Rockford and Chicago, in part because of news bulletins warning of anticipated Muslim terrorist attacks. But it was everyday mean minded Americans who prove to be the actual terrorists. Alison, prepared, as she puts it to her sister, not a prepper (excuse me, perhaps it's just my British bias, but purchasing $100 of ammunition per month, plus other gun related devises, to feed into her armoury, sounds very much more like prepping to me), has amassed a large supply of survival goods, from food to guns to toilet paper, far exceeding the needs of her and her husband to see them through a week of bad weather, her reason for squirrelly it all away. Where did she get the money? And how could her husband not know? Bossy and self satisfied, she comes over more as one of those people just waiting for a disaster to take control, and the political rants against Democrats might well mirror some reader's views but to this one, felt bigoted and totally unnecessary, more like a Nazi agenda than that of a caring citizen. No, I did not like Alison and her small town cohorts.
In contrast, the two biker friends, Bill and Riley, also gun toting and not afraid to use them, came over as compassionate and capable, as they ride into the area to retrieve Riley's nephew for his sister from the violent father, George Wilson. Their story is engaging and a reason to continue reading.
Characterization is good, situations, though, felt contrived, although for wannabe peppers there is useful information. J.Scott Bennett's narration is, as usual, superb, with full textual understanding, good pacing and intonation as well as separate and appropriate voicing for each of the characters. A fine performance. He is a pleasure to hear even when what he reads becomes less than enjoyable.
Will I be reading the next in this series? Probably, as I formed a literary attachment to Bill and Riley. Would I recommend it to others? No.

OK but ...
It did keep me entertained most of the day but there was an awful lot of concern about toilet paper and huge rant about the lazy democrats! Alison’s world is black or white and had no connection to the rest of the world. The lack of knowledge about their own history and how people managed without electricity was astounding.

Allison’s Secret Review
After a solar flare wipes out most of the worlds technology, Allison and her neighbours join together to try and make her town more self sufficient.
However there are people who are believe that they can just take what they want with no consequence. And after trying to help four strangers, all hell literally breaks loose.
There’s a bit of everything in this action paced book for everyone... there’s fun fights which in turn leads to a boy getting shot, bombs, and plenty of sass from Allison herself.

Surprisingly good story
This story primarily involves the story of a woman who was obsessed with being prepared for an emergency. What she did not realize was that the emergency was the end of life as she knew it. It describes what occurs when a solar flare reaches earth and knocks out the power grid for most of the Northern Hemisphere.
There are many obstacles and she has to assist organizing a community so that they can survive the Winter. In the midst of this is a group who are involved in the rescue of a young boy and their encounter with the boy's father and his friends who intend to kill the men and the boys mother.
All very exciting action and too real life in such a situation. The story was well written and involved for a story of this length with no wasted verbiage.
The narration was excellent. The use of multiple voices for individuals by the narrator lent realism to the story and kept it very interesting throughout.
This book was provided free of charge with the expectation of an honest review.
