About this listen

A murderous android discovers itself in All Systems Red, a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial Intelligence.

"As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid—a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.

But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

Performed by David Cui Cui, Khaya Fraites, Zeke Alton, Alejandro Ruiz, Aure Nash, Bradley Foster Smith, Holly Adams, Megan Dorminy, Natalie Van Sistine, Michael John Casey, Rayner Gabriel, Shanta Parasuraman, Tanja Milojevic and Wyn Delano.

This was hard to put down and I like how it was narrated by Murderbot. This allowed for a great role reversal, lots of sarcasm and wit. I especially loved the ending. The humans didn’t consider things from the sec bot’s point of view only theirs. Seriously, why would you want to be human?

Original and thoughtful

Listen to the original audio book and loved it, ended up listening to the whole series. Just finished this one and my only regret is that the second book isn’t on audible.

Voice acting is great
Story is good

Only thing I’m disappointed with is it’s a little short

Love the original

Can’t wait for the next one. The voice acting is pretty good, loved the sound effects though, on point.

Very enjoyable

All Systems Red was an enjoyable and quick read with an intriguing main character. The dynamic between the robot protagonist and the humans kept things interesting throughout. The story was engaging, setting up a world I’m curious to explore further in the series. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where it goes next.

My rating: 3.8/5.

Intriguing introduction to the series

I absolutely love the Murderbot Diaries. I might even go so far as to say they are my favorite books, and I've read a lot of books. Unfortunately the main narrator reads like a ferret on crack. Slow down dude. This isn't a race. You're missing all the amazing humor this book has to offer by blazing right past the nuances. There were so many errors that kept breaking my immersion. Was anyone editing this? Also of all the accents in the world, who's idea was it to make Ratthi sound like Hagrid?!
These books are too good not to read, but maybe get the other version instead.

Amazing book! Disappointing Narration.

A bit clumsy and disconnected, lacks the feel of the series screenwriting. Story doesn't flow.

Not the same class as Murderbot version.
