Are you sick and tired of feeling sick and tired? Alcohol is a powerfully addictive drug, and not the harmless social pleasantry that the marketing would have you believe. Willpower on its own has a 95% chance of failure. Quitting alcohol can be difficult unless you get the tools to help you reprogram your subconscious mind. This is the most forceful version of my stop drinking hypnosis range. Designed for people who are adamant that they want alcohol out of their life forever.

What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Story
This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all encompassing and ubiquitous, that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it. What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what? My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse.

It's such a savage thing to lose your memory, but the crazy thing is it doesn't hurt one bit. A blackout doesn't sting or stab or leave a scar when it robs you. Close your eyes and open them again. That's what a blackout feels like. For Sarah Hepola, alcohol was 'the gasoline of all adventure'. She spent her evenings at cocktail parties and dark bars where she proudly stayed till last call. Drinking felt like freedom, part of her birthright as a strong, enlightened 21st-century woman.

Dr Gabor Maté is one of the world’s most revered thinkers on the psychology of addiction. His radical findings - based on decades of work with patients challenged by catastrophic drug addiction and mental illness - are reframing how we view all human development. In this award-winning modern classic, Gabor Maté takes a holistic and compassionate approach to addiction, whether to alcohol, drugs, sex, money or anything self-destructive. He presents it not as a discrete phenomenon confined to a weak-willed few but as a continuum that runs through (and even underpins) our society.

Story
We live in a world obsessed with drinking. We drink at work events, lunches, book clubs and weddings. Yet no one ever questions alcohol's ubiquity. In fact, the only thing ever questions is why people don't drink. It is a qualifier for belonging. As a society, we are obsessed with health and wellness, yet we uphold alcohol as some sort of magic elixir. It is anything but. When Holly Whitaker started to look for a way to recover, the support systems she found for recovery where archaic and patriarchal.

Publisher's Summary
Craig Beck was a successful and functioning professional man in spite of a "two bottles of wine a night" drinking habit. For 20 years, he struggled with a problem drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he did not think he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed.
All these "willpower" based attempts to stop drinking failed. Slowly, he discovered the truth about alcohol addiction and one by one, all the lies he had previously believed started to fall apart. For the first time, he noticed that he genuinely didn't want to drink anymore.
In this audiobook, he will lead you through the same amazing process. You can stop drinking today.... No need to declare yourself an alcoholic. No group meetings or expensive rehab. No humiliation, no pain, and no "willpower" required.

Perfect to empower and inform anyone looking to walk away from Alcohol
I was looking for information on how to walk away from alcohol, after feeling something not right inside of me, and after many years of problem drinking.
This book came at the right time. I know it’s bad, but this assisted me to understand why I couldn’t fathom not drinking, and how to effectively stop.
Perfect start for anyone wanting to do the same thing, or to just better understand the effects and social conditioning that exists around the attractively packaged poison that is, alcohol.
The authors narration certainly provides greater impact, the only thing I didn’t like, it finished... I would love to hear more and will check out the website for that.

More convincing than competitive books about this.
I just finished listening to Alcohol Lied to Me and Escaping the Evil Clown audiobooks. They are the best books I've heard yet on dealing with alcohol. I gave up alcohol this spring for 3 months after listening to The Easy Way to Control Alcohol by Allen Carr because I wanted to lose 25 pounds before I went on a 7 week backpack hike (and I did lose the 25 pounds, alcohol weakens my appetite will power and I put on weight if I drink). I did my 7 week backpack this summer but did drink once every 8 days when we had a zero mileage day and resumed drinking after finishing the hike but in the 2 months since then I've gained 7 pounds and wanted to give up drinking again to keep the weight off and I'm on day 11 of abstinence now. Beck's audiobooks are much more convincing than Carr's book and this time I plan to make it permanent. I know I can go without alcohol as I do it for 7 weeks every summer on my annual backpack hikes. I do really appreciate the author explaining everything the way he does though. I did not realize about the 24 hour withdrawal urge (it explains it perfectly, 24 hours after giving up wine is when I want it again the most). Also I'm glad to know that after 2 weeks, one doesn't really have that withdrawal urge anymore. I'm also glad to have the mental image of how horrible alcohol is by itself. The author is right, I'd never drink it straight. And the realization that alcohol kills cells (that's why it's used to sterilize things) is a powerful image. I do want to 100% eliminate alcohol from my life the rest of my life though as I know it's the best way to live a healthy life and save money too. Not only will one save money on alcohol not bought but also on about 30% less food bought as one without alcohol does not eat as much. PS, I'm 68.

Helpful for anyone worried about their drinking
I started with This Naked Mind by Annie Grace. I have to say, that book is phenomenal and I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could. This book is similar. Both help you to realize that not drinking is better than drinking, and that without that realization you will be forever caught between your unconscious mind that wants to drink and your conscious mind that isn’t so sure you should. I’m glad I listened to this book after This Naked Mind, but if without question if I was just going to listen to one, it would be This Naked Mind. Something about it did a better job proving to me that I really would be happier without it, that I really am not giving up or sacrificing anything by stopping drinking entirely. Also, Alcohol Lied To Me contains some slightly out-there stuff that turns me off, like a form of Hawaiian spiritualism that the author likes, places to tap on your face when you have a craving, and a very specific shopping list of supplements that he insists are practically required. Annie Grace, in contrast, just helps you change your unconscious mind’s opinion of alcohol so that it aligns with your conscious mind’s desire not to drink, thus creating harmony in your mind and removing any requirement for willpower, face tapping, supplements, or any other outside force. By all means, read this book too. There are a few points worth hearing. But This Naked Mind is the more perfected version of a very similar “method.”

This book changed my life.
I learned of this book after listening to the author's podcast. I've tried counseling, I've tried AA, I've tried the will power method, and would have a few days or weeks of success before inevitably falling off the wagon. This book spoke to me in a way that resonated in my mind for weeks afterward. Not only did the author dispel a lot of common myths about alcohol, but changed the way I looked at alcohol entirely. I cannot recommend this book strongly enough!

Thank you thank you
I have listened to this book twice and have found it tremendously inspirational. I am not a huge drinker - maybe half a bottle when I do drink. But half a bottle of wine is enough to give me a headache and stop me from sleeping . I wouldn't dream of drinking coffee in the evening or for that matter eating some dark chocolate as this has the same effect. So why do I do it? I am old enough (and daft enough) to know better! But I still do it. Not from today I won't. Wish me luck. I highly recommend this audio book and will listen to it again if I feel the need. Thank you Craig

I Wanted to stop drinking for awhile but never found the will to stop. My drinking was increasing with no side effects in the morning an then In 3 days i consumed 2 bottles of rum and a bottle of wine. I didn't even have a headache an I said to myself this isn't right. So I bought this book an never bothered listing to it. Untill I started getting a pain in my lower left tummy area. That scared me! So I started listing to this book, an it's changed the way I see alcohol. I'd like to point out I have no idea who Craig Beck is but what he talks about is so interesting. I've been stone cold sober for over 2 months I can't even eat sauce that has alcohol in. Bye bye Jack d bbq sauces! I really recommend this book it's changed me for the better 😁

Surprisingly amazing
I have read quite a few books on the subject but this one has been the best, the One that clarified many aspects, fully satisfied me.
The author and reader transmits all the passion while reading. I am extremely happy to have read this book. I almost cried when it finished.
Thank you.

“Normal drinker” Bought year ago, fifth listen so far.
This book is very good for when you decide you aren’t happy with your drinking habits. It contains a lot of sense and is a good partner to assist you in removing the desire for alcohol. That said you will need to get to a point when you personally feel the bad of drinking outweighs the good as it is definitely not a miracle cure. I bought it because i was drinking daily tho well within socially acceptable levels but it was habitual and non beneficial to my state of mind and goals. I am writing this after my fifth listen as I’m few weeks t-total again and it’s a good counter argument to the rest of social influence telling you drinking is normal. First listen it came across too preachy and ott but that is mainly due to me not considering my few a beers a night to be comparable to alcoholism. However the habitual side of it is the same and even tho I always feel better after few days of not drinking I’d always return to drinking again. I’ve not done the hypnosis stuff as I think u gotta buy it off his website so maybe with that it’d work quicker but tbh I’m happy chipping away at my desire to drink alcohol and it’s interesting watching my ego trick me into old habits even tho I know alcohol has no benefit at all.
I give 5 stars as this is like having a mate who doesn’t drink who will remind you why he doesn’t whenever u need to hear it. It’s a handy tool to have but don’t expect a miracle!
