Publisher's Summary

Craig Beck was a successful and functioning professional man in spite of a "two bottles of wine a night" drinking habit. For 20 years, he struggled with a problem drinking, all the time refusing to label himself an alcoholic because he did not think he met the stereotypical image that the word portrayed.

All these "willpower" based attempts to stop drinking failed. Slowly, he discovered the truth about alcohol addiction and one by one, all the lies he had previously believed started to fall apart. For the first time, he noticed that he genuinely didn't want to drink anymore.

In this audiobook, he will lead you through the same amazing process. You can stop drinking today.... No need to declare yourself an alcoholic. No group meetings or expensive rehab. No humiliation, no pain, and no "willpower" required.

Alcohol Lied to Me has already helped thousands of people to escape from alcohol addiction. Newly updated, this third edition of the audiobook includes two new chapters.

More convincing than competitive books about this.

I just finished listening to Alcohol Lied to Me and Escaping the Evil Clown audiobooks. They are the best books I've heard yet on dealing with alcohol. I gave up alcohol this spring for 3 months after listening to The Easy Way to Control Alcohol by Allen Carr because I wanted to lose 25 pounds before I went on a 7 week backpack hike (and I did lose the 25 pounds, alcohol weakens my appetite will power and I put on weight if I drink). I did my 7 week backpack this summer but did drink once every 8 days when we had a zero mileage day and resumed drinking after finishing the hike but in the 2 months since then I've gained 7 pounds and wanted to give up drinking again to keep the weight off and I'm on day 11 of abstinence now. Beck's audiobooks are much more convincing than Carr's book and this time I plan to make it permanent. I know I can go without alcohol as I do it for 7 weeks every summer on my annual backpack hikes. I do really appreciate the author explaining everything the way he does though. I did not realize about the 24 hour withdrawal urge (it explains it perfectly, 24 hours after giving up wine is when I want it again the most). Also I'm glad to know that after 2 weeks, one doesn't really have that withdrawal urge anymore. I'm also glad to have the mental image of how horrible alcohol is by itself. The author is right, I'd never drink it straight. And the realization that alcohol kills cells (that's why it's used to sterilize things) is a powerful image. I do want to 100% eliminate alcohol from my life the rest of my life though as I know it's the best way to live a healthy life and save money too. Not only will one save money on alcohol not bought but also on about 30% less food bought as one without alcohol does not eat as much. PS, I'm 68.

Very insightful!

love the in your face approach and the use of logic. Being from the US I had to get used to the English accent of the narrator but still loved it. I am planning on reading it again and again...

Very genuine great book

I have listen to several self help books for dealing with alcohol this one actually spoke to me . It is so much better than Annie Grace. I did her 30 day challenge and while it was good a lot of her content has been copied from books such as this and are just a repeat of material already published by authors like Greg Beck. This is very authentic and useable.

NO BS NO PREACHING!

I’m not totally sure why this is except that our fragile egos get in the way, but no one who has a problem with alcohol wants to hear one thing from someone who says they do. We get angry, we distance ourselves from that person, all the while knowing in the back of our minds that they speak the truth. I bought this book expecting the usual. I wasn’t looking for a preachy book that was going to tell me to go to AA. I don’t even go to PTA meetings for God’s sake because I can’t stand that mentality. Let’s just say that this book is straightforward and it goes a lot deeper into the world of heavy drinking then you would imagine. We blame ourselves for our drinking, all the while not understanding that it is indeed malfunctioning brain chemistry that causes us to do so. So not only does this book delve into the reasons WHY we drink, it gives us a clear and concise path to choose ourselves whether we do or do not want to drink. Good simple explanations, no guilt trips, the decision is yours and only yours. I listened to this book on Audible and have been completely drink free for 30 days. I can drink anytime I want to. The differences now I CHOOSE not to.

big help

Craig's approach is working for me. Today is day 35 without alcohol. I feel awesome, and I dont have any urge to go back. I saw a lot of parallels in myself to Craig's struggles and lies he told himself to justify his problem with alcohol. I've listened to the book a few times to drive the points home.

This wouldn’t stop me or keep me stopped

I’m sorry but this book just doesn’t do it for me.
I approached it with an open mind but found it very irritating.
Different strokes for different folks.
I hope you buy it on Audible and if like me you find it doesn’t work for you you can return it thank you

Amazed

I wasn’t actually planning to quit forever, and I’m only 2 days in so who knows, I just wanted to cut down after an indulgent holiday. This just clicked in my brain, within about 30 mins. I listened to it all but for me it was already preaching to the converted.

I feel such an elation, a freedom from something I never thought I wanted to be free from. A true excitement at the beginning of the rest of my life. It sounds too good to be true, but for me I’m walking on a cloud!

Honest opinion

I have read and listening to a lot of self help books in the attempt to cut down or give up alcohol. This is the book that has changed my views. I no longer want to drink or be apart of drinking anymore. During listening to this book I went out with my friends and I did not drink. I have usually tried to do this but I would break due to the pressure of my company saying "just have one" "cmon lighten up" I felt no urge. I was happy to say no and even happier to have gone home early whereas I would stay out till all hours. The best part was waking up with no sore head or regrets. Thank you for this book!
