In 2000, Rebekah Robertson gave birth to twin boys, George and Harry. But as they grew older, their preferences began to show, and by the age of three it was clear Georgie was drawn to anything that was pretty or had a skirt that could swirl.
Before long Georgie began to insist that she was a girl and became distressed that she had to hide who she really was when she started school. Soon the bullying started, and she would come home in floods of tears, begging her mother to help her.
Rebekah and her husband, conflicted about how to proceed and overwhelmed by fear, united in their determination to help her live freely and fearlessly. To ensure Georgie had access to medical support they sought permission for her to begin puberty-blocking medication. Their case, Re: Jamie, was the start of the long road to justice for transgender children in Australia and became the basis of the 2013 landmark decision to remove the Family Court's jurisdiction.
Georgie would go on to become one of the brightest stars of the Australian youth leadership landscape through her advocacy work. And Rebekah would found Transcend, a support network for transgender kids and their families in Australia.

About A Girl
Great job Rebekah. This book was enjoyable and insightful while delivering the information intertwined with telling a real life family's journey as well as Georgie's while delivering information about teansgender individuals and the exp they must endure to become their true selves.
The narration was great as was the content without being too heavy which made it an enjoyable story.

What a story and a relatable one
Listening to this audio book firstly brought up a lot of hard memories in terms of the harsh topics discussed in the earlier chapters and as the book progressed it gave me a lot of food for thought and by the end I was in tears just because of the journey

Moving, educational story
I read this book after hearing Georgie on No Filter podcast. Rebekah has written a truly moving account which had me totally absorbed. I experienced so many emotions - from sadness to elation- as I accompanied Rebekah on their journey. Thank you so much for sharing this most personal aspect of your lives.

Superbly written and narrated
Such a raw and open story of love, persistence and struggle. I wept for the young Georgie trying to cope with all life had thrown at her. I cheered aseverything turned out so well in the end. A warm and heartfelt story of a mother's unending support and love.

A remarkable story of family love
This book is a love story. The love of a mother and father for their children. This remarkable story shows what can be accomplished with grit and determination against the backdrop of unfounded accusations of parental abuse of a child. Some may want to try and portray the love and acceptance these parents showed their children as something unsavoury. I would be surprised if anyone could read this book and not be moved my this remarkable display of determination. The story of one mothers (with the support of her Husband) efforts to give her trans daughter every chance possible at a future. The great love and courage shown by her in the face of bigotry, innuendo and a legal system determined to dehumanize her. If you are looking to try and understand Trans children and the struggles they face then this is the book for you. If you are looking for sordid details of perversion then I suggest you look elsewhere as you won't find it within the pages of this book.

Better understanding gained
