'Essential reading' Tom Watson

Think you have ADHD and looking for help?
Recently diagnosed and thinking, what now?
Looking to support and understand an adult with ADHD in your life?

From the hosts of The ADHD Adults comes this accessible, authentic and unfiltered guide to understanding adult ADHD. You'll find science-backed facts on what ADHD actually is, how it shows up in everyday life, personal reflections (sometimes painful, often hilarious) and tips and tools for coping.

Join Alex and James as they walk you through ADHD myth-busters (it's not a trend, technology doesn't cause it and medication can be effective - 80% of people who take ADHD medication think so!), the long-held perceptions of ADHD (did you know that it was once known as 'a defect of moral control'?!), to why intention and emotion regulation disorder might be a better name for it.

ADHD Unpacked is the relatable, reassuring and downright funny handbook you need to survive and thrive with ADHD.

Critic Reviews

James and Alex helped me understand my ADHD when I was first diagnosed, and ADHD Unpacked brings that same clarity to all adults with ADHD. Rooted in science, this book busts myths, explores the condition’s complexities, and offers practical insights. Essential reading for anyone looking to better understand and live well with ADHD. (Tom Watson, Sunday Times bestselling author of Downsizing)
A vital deep dive into the science, understandings and misunderstandings of ADHD, that’s digestible, relatable and essential reading. (Anita Bhagwandas, journalist and author of Ugly)
To paraphrase Alex’s high school analogy, ‘almost every single book I read feels like a slow and laborious torture of boredom’… but NOT this one! Engaging, unpretentious, relatable, informative and unifying. Facts and lived experiences smashing up stereotypes. This book can change and even save lives! Everyone should read it, but particularly ADHD adults (self-diagnosis is valid!), and the fact it can hold my attention SPEAKS VOLUMES! (Laura Mears-Reynolds, host of ADHD AF Podcast)
This book brings much-needed nuance to the ADHD discourse, blending lived and academic insights and experience with considerable care and humour. It untangles ADHD’s complexities and offers solid advice for adults; I felt understood, informed and ultimately empowered— it's a true gift to the community. This book is essential reading for anyone looking to understand ADHD deeply in relation to themselves or others (or are considering weighing in on its validity in the national press...!)" (Hana Walker Brown, author of A Delicate Game)

Most relevant
Different to most other ADHD-related books (I would say all but I haven’t read all the related books yet). I highly value the scientific lens Alex and James used to write the book while still dumbing it down enough for anybody to read. The content feels less emotionally charged and balanced than other books on the Neurodivergent experience I have read. They acknowledge how it sucks to be ADHD while not feeding into the us vs the world narrative. As an AuDHD person, I liked the way they phrased things in a (seemingly purposefully) literal way. The audiobook is waterproof but would benefit from the written word when I got sick of hearing their annoying voices. 9/9 stars
