Publisher's Summary

Perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and Uprooted, this stand-alone, fantasy romance about a human girl and her marriage to the Elf King is impossible to put down! The elves come for two things: war and wives. In both cases, they come for death.

Three thousand years ago, humans were hunted by powerful races with wild magic until the treaty was formed. Now, for centuries, the elves have taken a young woman from Luella's village to be their Human Queen. To be chosen is seen as a mark of death by the townsfolk. A mark 19-year-old Luella is grateful to have escaped as a girl. Instead, she's dedicated her life to studying herbology and becoming the town's only healer.

That is, until the Elf King unexpectedly arrives...for her. Everything Luella had thought she'd known about her life, and herself, was a lie. Taken to a land filled with wild magic, Luella is forced to be the new queen to a cold yet blisteringly handsome Elf King. Once there, she learns about a dying world that only she can save. The magical land of Midscape pulls on one corner of her heart; her home and people tug on another...but what will truly break her is a passion she never wanted. A Deal with the Elf King is a complete, stand-alone novel, inspired by the tales of Hades and Persephone, as well as Beauty and the Beast, with a "happily ever after" ending. It's perfect for fantasy romance fans looking for just the right amount of steam and their next slow-burn and swoon-worthy couple.

a very sweet YI Hades and Peresephone retelling.

yes it's full of miscommunication, but that's life, how we can so easily misunderstood what someone is saying or meaning and we apply our own interpretations and judgements.
dealing with two people that feel worthless of love and bound to duty, possibly to avoid romance, but in Luella's case I feel she found her worth in what she did for others and didn't see a place for love in her life..
for some reason she did assume the worst of Eldas at every turn.
I did cry at some of the things in the dynamic between Lualla and Eldas, I found it very touching.
but this book is very much YOUNG young adult and the smexy scenes are a little cringe/ basic.

Elizabeth's narration is very good.. they have a very nice voice to listen to. my only issue is the made Willow a MALE elf sound like an old granny when he wasn't much older then Lualla, this was very confusing.

These novels are the best I love how they are made and how they suck me in and give me a clear idea of what she is thinking and feeling too.pleas keep going. Even if they are free that helps me to lessen to them earlier.

Sucked me in unexpectedly!

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did! I loved the characters and the slow burn build up of their relationship! I wish there was more of these characters.

Romantic

A nice romance story with a otherworldly feel. Predictable and a bit PG but not bad. I give it 5 out of 10.

Satisfying

Ticks all the fantasy and romance boxes for me. I like the narrator. It’s a nice stand alone book that is very easy to get into.

“Love is choice”

A Deal with the Elf King is light fantasy romance. I recommend it if you're needing to get out of a slump or after you've read an in-depth fantasy book and need a light easy read.
The main character Luella is a simple girl that likes her herbology and helping her town. I actually enjoyed her character as she was kind, gentle and driven. She is very much her own. I do think she can come off as boring with no personality, but I that's just her character in my opinion. If it wasn't a standalone, I believe her character could have development more. Eldas, the Elf King is very shielded, he doesn't want to let anyone inside or be vulnerable. His character wasn't explored too much, which was disappointing as he was a very interesting character, and I was waiting to explore his roots, but it never came. His character needed more depth. I would have preferred if the book was in both Luella and Eldas perspectives, that would have been better and would have given both more insight. I found there was so much internal dialog that there wasn't much conversation between characters, especially between Luella and Eldas. Then comes the world building. The idea was amazing, but it was confusing and needed more explanation on how it worked. I feel like the author wrote what the world is but not how it works, for give reasons how it works. We needed more insight and depth especially for a standalone. The ending was the most confusing as she figured out the answer on how to end the cycle of human queens, but it just didn't make sense and went to fast.
Side characters, I loved Hook and glad he was in this book, it was good humor and can't say no to a cute puppy. Ranni was stale, I really didn't understand her character much. I like she had her hobby of painting and very much her own person, but I wished her friendship with Luella was explored, so we got to know Renni more. She was very bland. Harrow I thought I wasn't going to like at the start, but I soon loved him. Willow and Poppy were good side characters too. I didn't mind they weren't explored too much and liked the friendship Willow and Luella had.

Though there are a lot of things I wanted more from this book, I still enjoyed it. It was still a cute story and a fun read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

Elizabeth Evans is one of my favorite narrators, so the performance was perfect.
