Publisher's Summary

The author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Think Like a Monk offers a revelatory guide to every stage of romance, drawing on ancient wisdom and new science.

Nobody sits us down and teaches us how to love. So we’re often thrown into relationships with nothing but romance movies and pop culture to help us muddle through. Until now.

Instead of presenting love as an ethereal concept or a collection of clichés, Jay Shetty lays out specific, actionable steps to help you develop the skills to practice and nurture love better than ever before. He shares insights on how to win or lose together, how to define love, and why you don’t break in a break-up. Inspired by Vedic wisdom and modern science, he tackles the entire relationship cycle, from first dates to moving in together to breaking up and starting over. And he shows us how to avoid falling for false promises and unfulfilling partners.

By living Jay Shetty’s eight rules, we can all love ourselves, our partner, and the world better than we ever thought possible.

The year 1996 was the one that changed everything for Maggie Dawes. Sent away at 16 to live with an aunt she barely knew in Ocracoke, a remote village on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, she could think only of the friends and family she left behind...until she met Bryce Trickett, one of the few teenagers on the island. Handsome, genuine, and newly admitted to West Point, Bryce showed her how much there was to love about the wind-swept beach town - and introduced her to photography, a passion that would define the rest of her life.

Critic Reviews

"A fulfilling life begins and ends with how you show up in your relationships. With that said, this could be the most valuable book you read this year." (Dr Julie Smith, Clinical Psychologist and #1 Sunday Times Bestselling Author of Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before?)

"8 Rules of Love guides you on your quest for love as you build a foundation first with yourself, then with others and, finally, with the world. Jay's teachings and writings inspire and empower you to navigate love and to live life with compassion, humour and the belief that anything is possible." (Jennifer Lopez)

"This is the first and last book anyone needs to read on the topic of love and relationships. A truly complete, demystifying, challenging and captivating journey through modern love, its inevitable human challenges and its unavoidable human answers. One of the most important books I’ve ever read." (Steven Bartlett)

Storyline a bit messy

I am usually a fan of Jay’s work, I was a bit disappointed by this one. The general idea was great, but I found it was going in too many directions. At some point it almost feels as if he was trying to get all his best quotes and ideas across which makes the book messy and forced.
His first book “think like a monk” felt more genuine, I would recommend to read that one instead.

Not bad but not great

Has some interesting chapters but didn’t really resonate with me. I really enjoyed his other book think like a monk and I’d recommend reading that over this one

Great book!

Wonderful book. So many amazing insights. Jay Shetty is always inspiring!
I would recommend this book to anyone who is willing to dig deeper into self-love and relationships with others.

Some words from Jay are cut off so from time to time its hard to catch what he reads.

Everything

Thankyou Jay Shetty for bringing language, nuance, information and grace to such an important substance. Not subject. But substance. Love is indeed malable and as close as our next breath. I highly recommend this book for all those who often play ‘hide and seek’ with love. As you read- may you no longer hide, rather find the love you seek - or hide from - within. xo

A difference in how lovw is taught

I had an amazing time listening to Jay Shatys book .
I will have to read it 3 times.

The 8 Rules of Love is a completely different approach to how love principles are taught.

I believe the quality of our relationships is directly proportional to how well we navigate our fights
( Our ability to navigate disagrements)

Jay Does a veey good job teaching that.

What you find in this book are the actual things
that make all the difference.

Finding the right person is one thing but walking throufh life with them and reconciling the beliefs and Values with your partner is a different ball game altogether.

I recomended the 8 Rules of love to anyone that is a student of life and simply wants to grow and become a better partner no matter who they choose to keepn
In their life.

In the end, where ever you go ,there you are.

If you often find it hard navigating the differences in your relationships, Jay has the answers .

Great read.

Needed to love me and this is a great start

I have listened to Jay’s podcasts and YouTube’s for over a year, I feel lonely at times and he always picks me up with his words. I have listed to the audible 2 times now and I feel like this is a great start for me to learn to love myself.

Jay’s voice, hard to listen to

I love the content, but felt that Jay’s voice didn’t help, got monotonous after the first few chapters, so much so, I couldn’t listen to him any more. It might just be me. Will buy on Kindle to read instead.
