About this listen

The 1st novel in James Patterson's Women's Murder Club series. As the only woman homicide inspector in San Francisco, Lindsay Boxer has to be tough. But nothing she has seen prepares her for the horror of the honeymoon murders, when a brutal maniac begins viciously slaughtering newlywed couples on their wedding nights. Lindsay is sickened by the deaths, but her determination to bring the murderer to justice is threatened by her own personal tragedy. So she turns to Claire, a leading coroner, Cindy, a journalist and Jill, a top attorney, for help with both her crises, and the Women's Murder Club is born.

The story was ok, clearly a woman written from the perspective of a man but the plot was still pretty good although I predicted the ending before half way.

I am disappointed to have wasted one of my audible credits though as the narrator was absolutely terrible throughout the story she was heavy breathing like an amateur reading a book on YouTube and I could swear she was chewing or drinking throughout. Don’t bother with the audiobook unless you can find one with a different narrator.

Terrible narrator

Very difficult to hear the story over those noisy swallows and breaths. I tried to listen again but those noises are too distracting. I like the author James Patterson but the poor narration is not fair to him.
I would like to listen to this book again only if read by a different narrator.

Would you try another book written by James Patterson or narrated by Pat Star?

I think the actual story has potential but unfortunately I wont be finishing the book as I find the narrator difficult to listen too. Her heavy breathing is very off putting and makes it difficult to listen to for long periods of time.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 1st to Die?

None really, as it is difficult to get into.

Would you be willing to try another one of Pat Star’s performances?

Not really, perhaps if she sits away from the microphone so her breathing doesn't distract from the narrating.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Yes, the plot is good, the characters well formed.

Hard to listen to

This story is great but the narrator has spit in her mouth the whole time! All I can hear is spit! There is no way I could listen to this with head phones on it’s gross.

Narrator

This is a good story if you can ignore the narrative she has a loud annoying intake of breath.

Great story

Hearing the reader constantly swallowing was very distracting. Story would have been better without the romance.

ordinary

I couldnt finish the book, the narrators mouth noises made it impossible for me. I tried, but cant get past it.

Loved the story. Had me guessing right to the end. Narrator has a saliva problem. Her mouth sounds are so grinding I very nearly baled. If I had the time over I would've bought a copy on kindle and read it myself. Soooooo bad

The Narrator is in the wrong job

I read the reviews about the narrator but honestly I didn’t have any problem with her. She was good. The story was interesting and not predictable
Very enjoyable

Light and enjoyable

The first James Patterson novel I've ever read and I must say, I was expecting more. I liked how easy it was to read but some of the female characters were a little predictable and stereotyped. The crime wasn't quite interesting enough to make it great but just enough so I kept reading. There was a major plot hole. I'm not sure why a proofreader didn't pick it up, but over all the story wasn't too bad. A nice easy read.

first audio book.
