حيث تسلّط الرواية الضوء على الصراع السياسي القائم في إقليم دارفور السوداني.. أسبابه وبعض ملامحه، وتبرز الوجه البشع للحضارة الغربية التي ترتدي -وفق الرواية- قناعاً إنسانياً لإعادة عملية الرق مرة أخرى، من خلال حكاية الفتاة الزرقاء بابنوس وأخيها وارتحالهما من ذلك المكان الذي يُدعى الخربقة واستقرارهما أخيرًأ في باريس في رحلةٍ يدمى لها القلب وبنهاية موجعة لكنّها حقيقية.

تكمن القيمة الحقيقية لرواية "بابنوس" في أنّها تعيد إنتاج مقولة أن الرواية لم تعد مجرد أحداث وشخصيات، لكنها خطاب معرفي فني يقدم تأريخاً لمكان ما خلال فترة زمنية ما، وهو في الغالب تاريخ الشعوب المقهورة وليس تاريخ السادة..أي أن الرواية تقدم التاريخ المسكوت عنه.
