Wanjirũ Warama writes memoir, biography, and historical nonfiction that preserves voices and stories too often left out of history. Through her books, she explores resilience, identity, family, education, and the human journey across cultures and generations. Born and raised in Kenya during the final years of British colonial rule, Wanjiru grew up on a colonial farm where her parents worked as peasant laborers and had no formal education. Her early experiences, combined with her later life in California and travels to all seven continents, have given her a deep appreciation for the stories that shape individuals, families, and communities. Having grown up in a home without books, Wanjiru understands the transformative power of education. Her own journey—from poverty and educational struggle to becoming an author—has strengthened her belief that education remains one of the most powerful tools for expanding opportunity and preserving human dignity. Her books shine a light on ordinary people whose lives illuminate larger historical and social truths. She believes every family carries stories worth preserving and every voice deserves to be heard. A lifelong advocate for literacy and lifelong learning, Wanjiru is a lifetime member of the Friends of the San Diego Public Library, the Rotary Club, and the San Diego Writers and Editors Guild. She lives in California, where she continues to write, speak, and encourage others to preserve their own histories.
