Rick Page holds an honours degree in Disaster Engineering and Management and is a regular contributor to Cruising Helmsman magazine. He became a RYA qualified skipper in 2008 and has lived aboard every day since 2007 when he bought his first boat Marutji - a steel Van de Stadt 34. Rick Page first bought the idea of the Sea Gypsy life to a wider audience through the TV documentary 'New Lives in the Wild' (Season 4 episode 4)* where he attacked the myth that you have to be rich, gifted or crazy to travel the world by sail. The book, "Get Real, Get Gone" was released several months later in order to elaborate on the ideas and philosophies that were touched upon in the TV documentary and to answer the thousands of questions from budding (often completely inexperienced) sea gypsies who were inspired to follow their example and head out to tropical paradise on their own boat and limited budget. Since then, hundreds of people have used this book to put their plan into action and change their lives for the better, many of whom have become friends with the author. The follow up, "Stay Real, Stay Gone" was released in November 2021 and has been met with similar acclaim. Rick now lives aboard his current boat Calypso II (an Island Packet 38) somewhere in the South Pacific For more details see www.sailingcalypso.com *This series is also known as "Where the Wild Men Are" in certain countries
