As a new author my path has carried me from a career in technology into a new passion for healing, recovery, and the science of the nervous system. My own journey in recovery awakened a deep hunger to understand how the body and mind work together and how somatic and polyvagal theories can restore safety, connection, and freedom.
That passion led me to write The Nervous System Solution, a compassionate guide to nervous system regulation for those in fellowships and beyond, and Dream Interpretation Revealed, where I explore dreams as portals into wisdom and healing. Now, I am immersing myself in self-research and courses, drawing inspiration from the groundbreaking work of Stephen Porges and Deb Dana, as I shape my next book, an exploration of the 12 Steps through a Polyvagal lens.
Beyond writing, I am an athlete and outdoors enthusiast, finding renewal on mountain trails, in rivers, and under open skies. I also love creating in the kitchen and through art, both of which remind me that expression and embodiment are vital parts of recovery.
At the heart of it all, I’m deeply grateful for my husband, daughter, and son, whose love and support steady me through every chapter of this journey. And our lively, quirky pet family keeps life full of laughter and chaos, the perfect reminder that joy is found in everyday moments.
The Somatic Recovery Series explores what it means to find safety, sobriety, and freedom through the body. Blending somatic therapy, polyvagal theory, and lived experience, M. Sallie reframes recovery as a process of regulation before revelation, a return to calm connection rather than a battle of willpower.
Book One: The Nervous System Solution
A Somatic Therapy Approach to Navigate Trauma, Break Free from Addiction, and Restore Your Body to Find Lasting Freedom
In this groundbreaking first book, M. Sallie introduces readers to the language of the nervous system and explains how trauma and chronic stress keep the body trapped in survival states. Through clear teaching, heartfelt storytelling, and somatic practices, each chapter gently applies the Twelve Steps through a somatic lens, showing how every Step corresponds to a nervous-system process—surrender, regulation, safety, and reconnection.
Book Two: Borrowed Hope
(TBD Proposed) The Twelve Steps Through a Somatic and Polyvagal Lens. Rebuilding Safety, Connection, and Trust in the Body (Coming Spring/Summer 2026)
When we can’t yet believe that healing is possible, we borrow hope from those who can. Continuing the journey, Borrowed Hope deepens the integration of polyvagal science with the spiritual rhythm of the Twelve Steps, guiding readers through a neurobiological understanding of surrender, faith, and connection. Each Step becomes a pathway of nervous-system regulation—an invitation to move from survival toward safety, from disconnection toward embodied trust.
Series Vision
Through compassionate science, personal narrative, and accessible somatic tools, M. Sallie offers a new language for sobriety, one that honors trauma, celebrates resilience, and welcomes the body back into the story of recovery. Healing, after all, doesn’t begin in the mind. It begins in the body—and sometimes, it begins with borrowed hope.
