Dr. Becki Cohn-Vargas is a leading scholar in the field of identity safety, celebrated in her roles as a consultant and curriculum specialist. With a rich and varied career spanning over 35 years, she has contributed significantly as a Spanish bilingual teacher, principal, curriculum director, and superintendent across diverse pre-K-12 educational settings, encompassing rural, urban, and suburban school districts. Dr. Cohn-Vargas has notably co-authored the best-selling book, "Identity Safe Classrooms K-5: Places to Belong and Learn," followed by "Identity Safe Classrooms Grades 6-12: Pathways to Belonging and Learning" and "Belonging and Inclusion in Identity Safe Schools: A Guide for Educational Leaders." Her literary contributions extend to book chapters, numerous articles, and the noteworthy film, "Our Family, A Film About Family Diversity," demonstrating a commitment to advancing the discourse on creating inclusive educational spaces. In February 2024, her latest publication, "Identity Safe Spaces at Home and School: Partnering to Overcome Inequity," co-authored alongside Debbie Zacarian, was released, underscoring her dedication to addressing issues of equity in education.
