Amy Farrell was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and majored in English at Ohio University. She earned her MA and PhD from the University of Minnesota in American Studies and Feminist Studies. She is currently the James Hope Caldwell Memorial Chair in Liberal Arts and Professor of American Studies and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She is the author, most recently, of INTREPID GIRLS: The Complicated History of the Girl Scouts of the USA (a Ferris and Ferris book). Previous books include FAT SHAME: Stigma and the Fat Body in American Culture; The CONTEMPORARY READER of GENDER and FAT STUDIES; and YOURS in SISTERHOOD: Ms. Magazine and the Promise of Popular Feminism.
