These events are my recollection of my time during a physically abusive relationship, and due to the nature of the theme, there are some graphic descriptions of what I went through. This book is for people who are currently in, or have been in, an abusive relationship. It can also be a useful tool for people who have a loved one who are in an abusive relationship, as I feel it can help them understand the situation more and therefore be a better source of support.

The law of attraction is based on the idea that everything in the universe has a polarity, meaning that everything - from the food you eat to the people you talk to, to the things you say to the things you think - contains either a positive or a negative kind of energy. Notice that being with people who complain or rant a lot tends to make you feel bad, even though you're not exactly experiencing what they're going through - that's the law of attraction working its magic. When you focus on negative stuff, then more negative stuff will happen.

As a survivor of domestic violence myself, I know that there's some comfort and strength to be gained from hearing about the events and situations that other people have gone through. To know you're not alone in how you're feeling whilst in an abusive relationship can feel like a God-send.

They’re going to show up. If you’ve been teaching self-defense for any length of time, chances are that you’ve already taught a survivor of violence, whether you knew it or not at the time. If you are going to teach for any length of time, meeting a survivor is a ‘when,’ not an ‘if.’ These students present a specific set of challenges, and have specific needs. If they’re handled unconsciously or inexpertly, they can be damaged more easily than most other people.
