Soseki Natsume's comic masterpiece, I Am a Cat, satirizes the foolishness of upper-middle class Japanese society during the Meiji era. With acerbic wit and sardonic perspective, it follows the whimsical adventures of a world-weary stray kitten who comments on the follies and foibles of the people around him. A classic of Japanese literature, I Am a Cat is one of Soseki's best-known novels. Considered by many as the greatest writer in modern Japanese history, Soseki's I Am a Cat is a classic novel sure to be enjoyed for years to come.

Lydia is hungry. She's always wanted to try sashimi, ramen, onigiri with sour plum stuffed inside—the food her Japanese father liked to eat. And then there is bubble tea and the vegetables grown by the other young artists at the London studio space she is secretly squatting in. But Lydia can't eat any of this. The only thing she can digest is blood, and it turns out that sourcing fresh pigs' blood in London—where she is living away from her vampire mother for the first time—is much more difficult than she'd anticipated.

歌舞伎や文楽の名作「義経千本桜」を採り入れたパロディ落語で、かなり昔から人気演目の一つでした。滑稽味満載の内容に、恐ろしさがスパイスとして、ピリリと緊張を加えています。

世間では、知らない間に犯罪に巻き込まれている場合もあります。それは昔も今も変わらないようで、前世からの因縁と諦めなければならないのかも知れません。

秋のネタの一つに数えられていますが、どの辺りに秋を感じられるか？晩秋の怪異談と思いながら聞いていただければ、より一層、ネタの味わいが深まるかも知れません。

目に関する落語は「犬の目」「目薬」「義眼」「按摩炬燵」「麻のれん」など、笑いの多いネタもあれば、「心眼」「大仏餅」のような切実な内容の落語もあります。

東京落語で成立した名作で、「妾馬」という演題でも演じられています。笑いの内に兄妹の情愛が濃厚に含まれていますから、将に泣き笑いの一席。

東京落語「お見立て」の上方落語バージョンだけに、大阪の色街の風情を楽しんでいただけるでしょう。「粋」という字は、江戸は「いき」、上方は「すい」と読みます。色街の風情も、東西の違いは大きかった。

幕末から明治初期までの上方落語界の大家・初代桂文枝が長編の大作に仕上げて大好評を博しましたが、借金の質草に取られ、どうしても聴きたい贔屓筋が請け出したという、曰く因縁付きのネタなのです。

文我百席を完走した後、お客様のリクエストを募り、オマケで上演しました。十四席目で演じた時と、かなり中身が変わっている所を確かめていただきたいと思います。
