One of the great, but often unmentioned, causes of both happiness and misery is the quality of our environment: the kind of walls, chairs, buildings, and streets we’re surrounded by. And yet a concern for architecture and design is too often described as frivolous, even self-indulgent. The Architecture of Happiness starts from the idea that where we are heavily influences who we can be - and argues that it is architecture’s task to stand as an eloquent reminder of our full potential.

Every age is built by invisible systems. Ours is no different. We are living through one of the greatest shifts in modern history. Institutions are being redefined. Artificial intelligence is reshaping the way we think and create. Social media is discipling attention. Technology is altering the rhythm of human life. Culture is rewriting identity. This book examines how authority in the United States is organized, how it shifted over time, and why the system now feels unstable and adversarial regardless of which party holds power. It is not about elections or candidates. It is an examination of how the system itself works and how it drifted away from the balance it was designed to maintain. At its core, the book focuses on federalism.

In this challenging interpretation of design education and its effect on design process and products, Argentinean scholar Alfonso Corona-Martinez emphasizes the distinction between an architectural project, created in the architect’s mind and materialized as a set of drawings on paper, and the realized three-dimensional building. Corona-Martinez demonstrates how representation plays a substantial role in determining both the notion and the character of architecture, and he traces this relationship from the Renaissance into the modern era.
