The Adventures of Sherrie and Chubbie

Sherrie loves living in South Florida with her best friend, Chubbie. One day, as they're on a fun adventure, tragedy strikes, and Sherrie's life comes crashing down. Will she be able to find faith in the middle of tragedy? Enjoy this heartwarming story of faith and discover as Sherrie learns to trust in something bigger than herself!

The Adventures of Sherrie and Chubbie was inspired by a story written in the early 1980’s by my mom, Carolyn Brown Poitier. After publishing the first adventure, I was inspired by fans to create additional adventures. In the past year, I have written a series that takes stories from my life that highlight my counseling personality and provides a platform for my experiences with youth to come to life. As a child, I was a peer counselor, and Sherrie & Chubbie’s future adventures teach children good character through rich stories.

In this heartwarming story, Sherrie must deal with a new problem: dishonesty! She meets a new friend from Jamaica who is deperate to "fit in". Gedion has decided that if he cannot return home, he is going to make up stories to get pity and friendship. Sherrie is faced with the choice: to walk away from Gedion or "let her light shine among men".

Alma has had an accident and she is not healthy enough to care for Sherrie this summer. Sherrie is devastated that she will not get her quality time with her beloved grandmother. Alma's house was the scene of her first miracle and Sherrie wanted to spend time with her summer friends and reminisce, so she is not taking no for an answer. Sherrie is mature enough to "cooperate" with Alma and Chubbie to spend the summer in Jacksonville caring for Alma as she has cared for Sherrie the past ten years. Come along on this "cooperative" adventure and see if Sherrie and Chubbie are up for the challenge!

Sherrie is back in Miami from her vacation with Grandma Alma and ready to save the world! How can a child in Elementary save the world… One friend at a time in Sherrie’s mind. While in Jacksonville, Sherrie & Chubbie experienced how amazing life can be when you cooperate, especially with those you love. She has vowed to have her and The Crew create a movement called the Guardian Angel Program to revolutionize her school. Everyone has a place in this world where they can make a difference, and Sherrie is determined to have her crew become responsible in any capacity they can.

Sherrie is expecting an amazing blessing this Christmas, but comes with a commitment requirement. As she anticipates her new blessing she must commit to surrendering some of her wants to make room for the wants of her blessing. Will she have the self-control to pull back for the good of her family or will this adventure lead us to new territory of Sherrie's character?

Sherrie is faced with blatant prejudice. She has always been different from her classmates as the first black gifted student in her elementary school, in fact, in the district, but her classmates have never approached her and told her she was out of place before. One of the crew members, Seth, of the Jewish faith, invites Sherrie to his sister's Bar Mitzvah. Though she is not the only non-Jewish attendee, her schoolmates have no problem telling her she should not be participating in the event because she is not Jewish. As they all were not Jewish, she knew they meant she was black.
