Dragons Rising

The world will drown beneath the waves...only the last mage can stop it. Vahly, the last mage, is the world’s biggest disappointment. Raised by the dragons, she was born to become the magical Earth Queen, the only one who can stop the Sea Queen’s mad plan to drown everything in existence. But there’s one problem: Vahly possesses no magic whatsoever. The oceans begin to rise, limiting the dragons’ hunting grounds and fouling their water supply, endangering their very home. Vahly can’t let the dragons she calls family die under the Sea Queen’s magic.

Dragons. Elves. And the last surviving human fated to save them from the sea. A flood is coming. The Sea Queen has a mad plan to drown the world. Only the magic of the Earth Queen can stop her. Vahly, the last human, was born to fill that role and wield the magic necessary to fight the rising oceans and save the dragons. But Vahly is the world’s biggest disappointment. So far, she possesses no magic whatsoever.

Vahly is changed. Power sizzles beneath her skin. The earth's heartbeat drums inside her, driving her to the distant western mountains and the sunken ruins of the last Earth Queen's city. But she has no idea why. If she doesn't untangle and master her newfound earth magic before a band of nihilistic, rogue dragons find her, the world will end in a crashing wave, all land life undone by the Sea Queen.

Tugging at her heart, Vahly’s magic begs her to discover her birthplace in the flooded Lost Valley. What she is meant to do there, she has no idea. Her power sings this one truth: To evolve into the Sea Queen's equal in strength, Vahly must set foot in the home where her mother brought her life. But while her magic urges her to the Lost Valley, the Sea Queen's high general holds Vahly in a dungeon of spelled salt water. 

In the search of the Sacred Oak where Vahly’s magic will rise in full, she and her cohorts — dragons, elves, and of course, her gryphon familiar — must fly over an expanse of sea that was once the Red Meadow. They cannot stop. There is no refuge in the spelled saltwater and the sea folk lurk just below its foam-tipped waves. Vahly must hurry. Once the Sea Queen renews her magic at the Blackwater well in Tidehame, she will strike again and end the land and its creatures for good. There will be no second chances.

On the night of Vahly’s favorite holiday, Frostlight, her grown daughter’s scream rips through the peaceful snowfall and heralds a new era in Sugarrabota. Something has crawled out of the sea. It’s not the enemy they faced nearly a century ago. This time it’s different. But before Vahly, Arc, and Nix can untangle this development, another challenge rears its head. The dragons lose their ability to shift.
