Born to Betty and George Sumrall of New Orleans on February 15, 1913, Lester Frank Sumrall's cold-hearted brawler father considered him an "accident", telling him bluntly, "You weren't supposed to be here." Reared in the Deep South he showed early in life the resourcefulness and leadership attributes that comprised his remarkable 83-year life and 65-year ministry of the Gospel of Christ.

I have selected for my subject this afternoon the blessed hope. We are told to be ready to give a reason for the hope we have within us, and what we want to do is to find out what our hope is. I believe there are a great many people who are hoping and hoping, when they have no ground for hope. I don't know of any better way to find out whether we have true ground for the hope we have within us than to look in scripture to see what the scripture has to say.

In his penetrating manner, the author seeks to capture the flavor and essential meaning of this most holy foundation: "the foundation of the apostles and prophets." With the current abundance of those "who call themselves apostles" (Rev. 2:2), it is refreshing to have a plumb-line from Heaven that will not only greatly enable God's people to correctly discern the true apostle from the false, but also challenge the core of their foundations in God.

Doctrinal deviation, degeneration, and denigration is a perilous path leading not to genuine unity of the Spirit, as posited by its propagators, but rather disunity with the Spirit, apostasy, perdition, and ultimately hell itself! An oft recited slogan in some segments of the church over the last few decades is: "We must agree to disagree without being disagreeable." In itself, the import of that pun has some merit.

Prayer is one of the most vital keys to the Church and individual believers moving into the dimension of the spirit that God is calling her and them into! Unless we pray, we are going to stay where we have been! James, the half-brother of Jesus and author of the New Testament book of James, said that fervent and effectual prayer availeth much! So, saints of God, for this cause, let us pray!

It is not merely to be admitted as of first importance, but should really be put first in point of time. The first thoughts of each morning should be given to it. And whenever God's word, or his providence brings before our mind the invitations or the claims of this kingdom, we are to remember that now is the accepted time.
