Beauty and the Beast is one of the world's most famous fairy tales. This is the very first published version of the fairy tale, by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, published in 1740. Variations of the tale are known across Europe. It has been enormously popular for centuries. In 1991 the story was made into a Disney animated musical fantasy.

In the Fall of 1918, eleven year-old Lydia Pierce and her fourteen year-old brother, Daniel, find themselves suddenly orphaned by the Spanish flu epidemic. "Thumbelina" is a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, first published in 1835. The story is about a tiny girl and her adventures with toads, moles, "cockchafers" and other small creatures - until she finally meets a tiny prince and lives happily ever after. Over the years, the story has been adapted in various media, including songs and animated films.
