There are only two questions we have to answer in life – how to live and how to die. When we come to the end of the line, we all have to face death, our greatest enemy. But since my emergency cancer operation and chemotherapy, I now choose to face it on my own terms instead of just letting it happen. I will not only survive, I will l thrive. I am determined to prolong my life for as long as I can and to enjoy every moment to the fullest. This is my story in poetry. It is my reckoning with death and my journey into discovering the true meaning of life.

I am seventy-seven, and before I know it, I will be in my eighties. During the past year I was diagnosed with stage three cancer. I am still recovering. I was faced with the reality that here are really only two questions we have to answer in life – how to live and how to die. We all must face death, our greatest challenge, sooner or later, but I now choose to face it on my own terms instead of just letting it happen. But above all I choose to love life. This book is my journey through life and all the lessons and treasures I have garnered in the process.

This is a book about the art of embracing sadness rather than hiding from it. As we embrace sadness, it releases the dam of compassion for ourselves and for others. It allows us to love ourselves and love life again. Once we digest the substance behind the sadness, we can grow again in wisdom, We can joyfully accept who we are and the life we have created. The only way we can truly embrace sadness is through our feelings. I have chosen to express these feelings through poetry.
