First heard every weekday morning at 5.58am on BBC Radio 4, Tweet of the Day captured the imagination of early risers and bird lovers, proving so popular that it was named Radio Programme of the Year 2014. Each episode begins with a bird call or song, followed by fascinating ornithological detail about its owner. This collection contains every edition from the first series, British Birds. The songs of over 160 birds can be heard over the course of a year, from the cuckoo's call in spring to the summer seaside sound of the herring gull, the autumn song of the robin and the song thrush's voice of hope in the depths of winter.

In 2007, after 20 years of living in London, Kate Humble and her husband Ludo decided it was time to leave city life behind them. Three years later, now the owner of a Welsh smallholding, Kate hears that a nearby farm is to be broken up and sold off. Another farm lost; another opportunity for a young farmless farmer gone. Desperate to stop the sale, Kate contacts the council with an alternative plan - to keep the farm working and to run a rural skills and animal husbandry school alongside it. Against all odds, she succeeds. 

After beginning her television career as a researcher, Humble later began presenting shows such as Animal Park, Tomorrow’s World and Extreme Wives, to name only a few. Known as a familiar face on the BBC, specialising in wildlife and science, Kate Humble published her new book, Thinking on My Feet, in October 2018. Kate Humble talks to us about the beauty of woods in winter, where we’ll see her and her dog, Teg, next and why walking makes a great first date. 

Even if we've never had direct contact with one, we will have seen one, or at the very least, heard one. For those of us who live in the Western world, it is more than likely that one sleeps in our house, possibly even on our bed. I'm talking, of course, of the dog. Yet, this animal, which lives alongside 500 million of us all over the world - as an invaluable partner and a trusted confidant - presents us with one great unsolved mystery: how did this relationship - the most complex and enduring of any between human and animal - start in the first place?
