Between 1947 and 1957, Ealing Studios produced a series of immensely popular, darkly funny film comedies that made the West London borough famous throughout the world. Almost 50 years later, four of these timeless films were recreated for BBC Radio 4, and are now collected together for the first time.

Jesus’ call is both an invitation and a command. It is both an offer and a draft notice, a birth certificate and a death notice. He is summoning you to a different kind of life, lived in a different way. Jesus isn’t asking you to recite a prayer, walk an aisle, or raise your hand. He is calling you to come to him...and to keep coming. He is inviting you to live a led life.

We know about the people who are mentioned in the Bible, but what about other people who aren’t mentioned? Jesus reached many in his short time here on Earth, healing not just their bodies but also their hearts.

We all long for satisfaction. More often than not dashed hopes and frustrated efforts leave us wondering if it is a phantom appetite – forever defying fulfillment. Broken promises, shattered relationships, lost jobs, unfulfilled hopes, dreams and aspirations – they mock us over past failures and our inability to lay hold of the satisfaction we long for. No sooner do we achieve a major goal in life than another immediately presents itself – leaving us in a perpetual chase after contentment. Above the jeers, however, there rises the sweet strains of a hopeful song. The voice is familiar.

Calm, rest, and peace come to us when Jesus becomes the great treasure of our lives. When Jesus is cherished as our inheritance and when we discover that he promises to give himself to us in deep personal relationship, this changes how we experience each day. Living in calm confidence is the result of prizing the Lord Jesus above all else.
