There is something different about adventurers; about the way their minds work. They look at the world as a place of challenges and though they know what fear is, they refuse to be hindered by it. TRUE SPIRIT is Jessica's story and in it she will detail her preparation, her journey and her...

My love of animals started at a young age, when I’d sneak away to the Stone Ranch and play animal doctor under the guidance of Dr. Paul (Paps) Stone. He inspired me to become a veterinarian. Which is why, after being gone for years, I make the trip home for his surprise eightieth birthday party. When my brother hands over a mischievous goat and asks me to deliver it to Paps my first day back, I do it happily. Paps is overjoyed to see me. His grumpy military veteran turned cowboy grandson? Not so much. In fact, he’s downright annoyed that I’m bringing Paps yet another misfit for his collection.

I’m having a mini life crisis. Normally I would confide in my bestie. But I didn’t come all the way to Alaska to ruin her wedding with my pathetic problems. I decide to stay in North Haven a few extra days to get my head on straight. When the new bride offers her key to me and insists I stay at her place while she’s on her honeymoon, I gladly accept it. My plan to hide out and avoid people—especially the arrogant groomsmen James Devano—is quickly upended when I discover I’m not the only one who’s been invited to stay.

EverleighI’m falling for my best friend’s brother, and it’s a problem. Huge problem, actually. Because Wyatt has been my go-to person for everything since I slunk back into my hometown a year ago with my tail tucked between my legs. Flat tire? Something goes bump in the night? Ice cream emergency? He’s the one I call. But ever since that night he carried me into my apartment and took care of me after an evening of binge drinking with my bestie a few weeks ago, I’m starting to feel things I shouldn’t. I refuse to let this little crush get out of hand. I’m too broken to let anyone in.

After one last treasure hunt, I’ll no longer be in debt to my sleezy stepfather. I’ll be free. It’s the only reason I agree to dive into the Bering Sea—solo. I find the treasure. But when I resurface from my dive, I discover my rented skiff is sinking, and I’m now stranded at sea. Until a Coast Guard helicopter appears in the sky. It’s both an answered prayer and possibly my worst nightmare. Because the treasure I’m hunting is illegal.

I’ve been living a quiet, simple life in my hometown for years. After a bad relationship with an ex who didn’t want to leave me alone, my plans to stay in the Coast Guard and travel the world were derailed. I wanted to feel safe again. I’ve adjusted well enough. But a crush on a world-traveled volunteer at the local animal shelter makes me yearn to stretch out of my comfort zone.

I have one rule: I don't date military men. It was a promise I made to Mom on her deathbed. All my life, I've lived by that rule. Or so I thought. Because that whirlwind romance weekend I had with a stranger four years ago?

I’ve been in love with my grumpy, sexy boss for three years. It’s an embarrassingly long time to hold a candle for someone. It’s clear I’m not Ben Ashburn’s type. It’s time for me to move on. But when he tells me we’re headed to an out-of-town festival to represent the brewery, I make a bold decision. I’m going to tell him how I feel before we come home. Well, I was going to tell him. Until he invites my grandma to come with us. Awkward much? wonder if he realized Grams would try to play matchmaker? Extra awkward.

After ending a toxic relationship, I’m ready for a fresh start. When an opportunity to be a kindergarten teacher in Caribou Creek arises, I don’t think twice. I pack my bags and go. After that turbulent relationship, I’m determined to stay single and focus on myself. But my resolve is tested when I meet my incredibly attractive landlord, Wes Ashburn. For months, I keep my distance from the sexy brew master. But when a leak springs under my kitchen sink that I can’t fix, I’m forced to call him.

It’s not that I’m trouble as much as trouble follows me everywhere. Especially when it comes to the Caribou Creek police chief, Garrett Bradley. Every time I cross paths with the man too sexy for his own good, trouble follows. Which is why I should know better than to speed through town. Because of course Garrett pulls me over. But instead of giving me the ticket I expect, he arrests me. The jerk.

I traveled to Alaska to meet and thank the brave soldier who saved my brother’s life on an overseas tour. I may have become a little obsessed with him. Planned our wedding and named our babies obsessed. But it’s okay. I have a plan for the perfect meet-cute that’ll lead to him falling madly in love with me. Except my carefully laid plans quickly go up in smoke when I discover I was had with an online cabin rental with no photos. Luckily, the old woman next door takes me in. Even if she’s a bit terrifying. It’s just my luck that she knows Shawn Decker. And not the good kind of luck.

I kissed my brother’s best friend when I was 15, right before he left for basic training. He didn’t kiss me back. Fourteen years have gone by since I’ve been home. I heard he’s back but haven’t wanted to face him. But when my grandma fractures her ankle and needs in-home physical therapy, I can’t say no. Caribou Creek is too small to avoid running into Zac Ashburn. Especially since my brother works at his brewery. He’s even hotter and more tempting than I remember. It doesn’t matter that I’m dealing with my own mini-life crisis. I know my heart is in trouble. Stupid heart.

Breakups are supposed to make people sad. Right? But all I feel after parting ways with my Anchorage boyfriend is … relief. I didn’t expect to spend my entire summer in Caribou Creek. To say he was unsupportive when I told him is the understatement of the year. But with Grandma Rose on a cruise, it’s up to my sisters and me to keep the diner afloat in her absence. Oh, and apparently our fate rests in the hands of my best friend, Rowan Jacobs and his secret cooking talent.

When I left Alaska to chase my dreams, I never thought I’d be back. But when Grandma Rose summons my sisters and me, it’s a matter of life and death I can’t ignore. Even if it means possibly running into the man whose heart I broke when I left. The only man I’ve ever truly loved. Any hopes of avoiding Mason Reid are quickly demolished when he turns out to be the pilot I hired to fly me to Caribou Creek. And avoiding the past? Impossible when an emergency landing strands us in the Alaskan wilderness.

Today was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. But I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t walk down the aisle and marry the wrong man. So I ditch my own wedding and board a plane. I’m probably crazy for showing up in North Haven, Alaska unannounced. It’s been ten years since I last saw Jordan Harris. Considering I was the one who broke his heart, I doubt he’ll want to see me. But I have to know if what we once had is possible to have again. I’ve never stopped loving him.

I’ve been looking forward to visiting my Coast Guard brother in Alaska since I broke off my engagement. A little time away in beautiful Alaska with my camera is just what I need. But when my flight lands in North Haven, my brother is nowhere to be found. Instead, the sexiest man I’ve ever laid eyes on is calling out my name, insisting he’s my ride. Jaxson Daniels is exactly who’d I’d pick for a no-strings-attached hookup during my long weekend away from home. Only problem is he’s my brother’s best friend.
