This is a story of love and discovery "against all odds" as experienced by Richard Grey, a boy growing up through adolescence to young adulthood. But Richard's upbringing is subject to a series of sometimes hilarious sometimes traumatic shocks. For example, his eccentric grandmother Blanche Grieve insists on his wearing a gas mask watching hockey games on TV, because he’s desperately allergic to the cat his sister has brought home from a nearby forest. As he grows into a dreamy, moody teenager, then a young adult, Richard faces many challenges.
