This short tale about a man's desire to live a different kind of life unfolds during a single day. At the crack of dawn the ferryman opens his eyes to find an impatient businessman nudging him with his foot. The businessman demands they cross the river. Immediately. Right this second. Not a minute to spare.

So what is this Middle Class American White Boy all about? It’s sort of a memoir in verse. This second edition contains 20 stories (narratives) (poems) from some crucial or mind-expanding time in my life. The idea is to tell as much story as possible in the fewest possible words. "The Universe", for instance - my own personal War & Peace - tells the tale of my time in Argentina during the Dirty War. When I wrote the account many moons ago it topped out at almost 30,000 words. I have now reduced that same story to a narrative verse of just over 900 words.

You may have sensed a sexual nuance in both the title and subtitle of this short story collection. But nope, that’s just the way your mind works. And how a reader’s mind works is of the utmost interest to a writer. The reason for the title is more mundane. I ran out of story ideas at 69 and just because I can I’m publishing the collection on June 5, 2026, my 69th birthday. As for the Wham Bam subtitle, that has to do with the brevity of these stories and not with the misogynist ditty Wham Bam Thank You, Ma’am so popular among soldiers during World War II.

Each "poem," "story," "yarn," whatever you want to call it, tells a tale of some life-altering experience in Simpson's journey through the cosmos. The places he's ventured. The folks he's met. The stuff he's seen and done.

Want to hear some entertaining stories but don't have a lot of time. The stories in this podcast are short and tough or short and sweet. Few exceed ten minutes, the outer limit of the average American's attention span. Simpson has been writing fiction for a long time and has perfected the short short story.
