Keith has already received his yellow belt and will soon be getting his orange belt. It’s time for him to learn some new moves! As he’s trying to learn a move that he read about on his own, Sensei steps onto the tatami mat. Today, he is going to teach them a new move called the two-finger strike! Keith is really excited. He had no idea they would learn this in class! This is an awesome move. You can strike a person with two fingers, hit a specific nerve, and make them freeze in place! He has to master the two-finger strike!

Keith knows that karate requires a lot of practice and self-control. Sometimes martial artists get hurt, but that’s a part of the game. Sensei has decided it’s time for Keith to take things to the next level. He needs to learn how to split boards! This seems like a challenge to Keith. He had seen other kids try it and get injured, so he is a little nervous. “Are you ready?” Sensei asks Keith. Keith takes a deep breath and braces himself. He might not succeed immediately, but he will practice until he does!

Keith appeared on the stage in a black costume with a black hood. Only his eyes were visible, so the audience couldn’t tell who he was! His father had made this ninja outfit custom just for him. He felt just like a ninja in a karate movie! “Welcome to the Little Ninja play, a history of Japan!” Mr. Perkins said. When the smoke on the stage cleared, Keith appeared in front of a Japanese temple and showed off his karate moves. The audience had no idea what he had in store for them!

At dusk, the farm grounds come alive with endless sounds. Gary, who never misses an opportunity to have fun, is hanging out with Hopi and Dubey at the edge of the pond. They can’t wait to show off their dance moves later at the big dance!

It’s Friday night, and my parents are taking me to the theme park! My dad brings his camera to capture every moment, and when we decide to ride the roller coaster together, he hands it over to mom. I am really afraid of heights, but I love roller coasters just as much, so I overcome my fear. My dad and I scream so loudly during the ride that the operator names me the park’s loudest screamer!

It was the perfect morning to have fun! Gary and his friends had agreed to watch Grace hula-hoop. Grace stretched her legs and arms, took deep breaths, and placed a book on top of her head. This was her warm-up before the big show.

Fred is really excited. His teacher gave him the best grade in the whole class, and he can’t wait to tell his brother, Seth! When he gets home from school, though, Seth is nowhere to be found. Fred searches the whole house room by room and tries not to worry. Before long, he finds his brother sleeping in his bed.

Today was Thanksgiving, and Gary was over the moon! He screamed and ran downstairs to meet his parents in the kitchen. “Happy Thanksgiving!” Gary looked around him and saw lots of pans and pots filled with delicious food in the kitchen. He immediately offered to help.

Mary Ann Jacobs tore open the bright pink envelope and saw a shiny invitation covered with glitter. “You’re invited to a dance party!” she read. She had been invited to Yolanda’s thirteenth birthday next Saturday at the Tates! Mary Ann was elated. Yolanda always threw the best birthday parties. This was a little different, though....

Gary had a unique idea. He and his friends would pretend to live in a kingdom full of magic. Everyone loved his suggestion, and Gary was chosen to be king. Daisy and Donna Duck would be his servants, and as the king of the kingdom, Gary would grant magical wishes.

Gary and his friends were going to play touch football in the yard. Everyone would be there! Gary had made grand plans for this game, but there was a small problem. He was sick! He felt sleepy and tired, and his whole body ached. His mom immediately called Dr. Frog, who put a thermometer under Gary's tongue to check his temperature.

Gary was having a fantastic day at school. He had done all his exercises and gotten excellent grades. Everything was going great until Miss Susan made an announcement.... There was going to be a Valentine’s party at school next week! The party would take place in the gym, and everyone would bring a Valentine’s card for their special friend.

Mary Ann Jacobs looked stunning in her softball uniform. She just couldn’t wait to play in her first softball game. She was so ready for it! She strutted into the kitchen, showing off her new muscles and punching the air happily. “What’s the big deal?” her brother Rupert said. It may not be a big deal for him, but for Mary Ann, it was huge.

Carly loves watching movies, especially when she goes to the cinema with her friends and family. Her mom says it will be a while until they can go to the movie theater again, but it’s okay. They’ve started having movie nights at home instead! On Friday, Carly reminds her friends that they are having a movie night the next day.

As Gary and his friends were playing, Grace noticed something poking out of the grass.... Gary recognized it right away. It was a pin! The others had never seen anything like it before, but Grace grabbed it and held it above her head. She would be queen, and this would be her scepter!

Some people love Christmas and Thanksgiving, but Gary’s favorite time of the year is Independence Day! This year, he mowed the lawn, pulled out the barbecue grill, put a red tablecloth over the picnic table, and hung his US flag outside his front door. Gary was looking forward to serving corn on the cob, grilled pea pods, and dessert to his guests.

Gary and his friends, Grace, Hopi, and Dubey, hopped from leaf to leaf and ducked under low tree branches without breaking a sweat. No one could catch them! As they were singing and laughing, they made loads of noise. “Get out! Go Go!” hollered Mr. Squirrel, pushing them out of his tree.

Mary Ann Jacobs stared at her math book, trying to make sense of it all. It was too difficult! She had been staring at the same problem for over an hour, but she had no idea how to solve it. She could ask her brother Rupert for help.... Unlike her, he was good at everything.

Gary and his best friends are really scared of Halloween. That day, people like to put on strange costumes, masks, and scary makeup and walk around the streets.... Patrick the Pig is afraid of scarecrows, Charlie the Chipmunk is afraid of skunks, and Cousin Cricket is afraid of birds. Gary is really afraid of Jack-o-lanterns, so he thinks this day is the worst!

Gary the Grasshopper didn’t spring up as usual when his alarm clock rang. The previous night, Patrick the Pig had thrown a birthday party, and Gary was a bit tired. He and Grace had been invited to Patrick’s after-party baseball game that morning, so Gary had to eat as much as he could to have enough energy.
