Cornelius Mildew is dead, but his drug-trafficking gang lives on! The Hon. Peter Boyle has taken administrative control of the organization, and appears to be as ruthless as his former master. The activities of the infamous drug-running gang founded by Cornelius Mildew may have been hampered in The Mildew Gang, but the king of crime is still alive and well-and still threatening to take his revenge. Scotland Yard whisks the two young people responsible away from London, where they'll presumably be safe-but when they're attacked once again by Mildew's henchmen, they return to the big city to help bring about his downfall.

Isabel Houghton has been shot dead, and her fugitive husband James is the chief suspect. Scotland Yard's Inspector Cauldron must unravel the mystery, and discover the connection between James and the notorious drug dealer, Cornelius Mildew.

Sir Daniel Denton was NOT a nice man, and when his body is found in his study at Bywater Grange, shot through the back with his own pistol, no one sheds many tears. Scotland Yard Inspector Pinkey is sent to the country estate to investigate the crime, and quickly focuses his efforts on three suspects: the dead man's widow, Lady Adelaide Denton; his half-brother, Gerard Denton; and his secretary, Redwin, who'd recently been dismissed for "cooking" the accounts.

He accidentally discovers the body of William Rabone, an attic tenant in the house where Hammerton has taken refuge. He reports the crime to the police, and then is himself unjustly accused of murdering the bank official. What can he do? If he admits his identity to Inspector Combridge, he'll be sent to jail for the original charge.

This isolated land is inhabited by goat-like homanids, large, semi-intelligent birds, the descendants of degenerate pirates from a century earlier, and the remnants of an ancient race of men with powers to forecast the future via their strange metal mirrors. There he also finds another recent exile - a young, beautiful French woman named Marcelle, who is quickly capture by the pirate leader.
