As a middle-aged man, the protagonist revisits his old home which he had left more than 20 years ago. He meets up with family members, and Runtu, a childhood friend, as well as someone he does not even remember - Mrs Yang, who exclaims "Don't you know me? And I have held you in my arms!" In this story, the listener is given an intriguing insight into people’s lives in China during the 1920s. This is A Madman's Diary, and Other Stories by Lu Xun, a renowned writer of modern Chinese literature. Lu Xun was a novelist, editor, translator, literary critic, essayist, and poet who wrote both in Vernacular Chinese and Classical Chinese. He became the titular head of the League of Left-Wing Writers in Shanghai in the 1930s.

Lu Xun (1881-1936) was born in Shaoxing, in the province of Zhejiang, China. He came from a scholar-official family and by the age of six had begun studying the ancient classics. Regarded as the founder of contemporary Chinese literature, Lu Xun used the pen as a weapon to wage an heroic struggle against imperialism, feudalism and bureaucratic capitalism. The rich heritage he has left behind is a treasure in the literature of the Chinese people.

Lu Xun’s evocative tale is reflected in the memory of the protagonist who, as a young Chinese boy, avidly wanted to fulfil his dream of watching an opera in a rural environment. The listener is given an intriguing insight into people’s lives in China during the late 1920s. En 1918 en la revista estudiantil Hsin Chingnien (Nueva Corriente) Lu Xun publicó Diario de un loco, que deliberadamente tomó su título de la obra del ruso Nikolás Gogol. Este relato narra en primera persona las impresiones de un hombre que cree estar prisionero de unos caníbales. En los caníbales está la naturaleza opresiva de la tradición. Fue la primera narración de estilo occidental en China, escrita en un estilo claro y sencillo.

"Una familia feliz" es una obra del escritor chino Lu Xun que aborda la vida de una familia tradicional china a principios del siglo XX. El relato sigue las vidas de los miembros de la familia, incluido el padre, la madre, los hijos y los parientes, mientras enfrentan las presiones sociales y las expectativas culturales de la época.
