Amongst the dynamic crew is young pirate prodigy Connor Tempest. Meanwhile, Connor's twin sister Grace enjoys a bittersweet reunion with their mother, Sally, who has some important and shocking news for her daughter. As Grace uncovers the truth about her family's past, she realises that she and Connor face a daunting and uncertain future.

Tvillingerne Connor og Grace genforenes omsider med deres mor, men mødet bliver ikke som Connor havde håbet, og han står på ny til søs - denne gang med den nyudnævnte piratkaptajn Cheng Li. Han føler, at hans lykke er gjort, men havene terroriseres af et nyt vampiratskib, som trækker et blodigt spor i sit kølvand. Cheng Li og hendes unge mandskab får til opgave at bekæmpe denne nye plage, og Connor bliver udset til at stå i spidsen for det indledende angreb på vampiraterne.
