Rival megacorporations DeCorp and EnerCon have made interstellar travel possible and space flight available to the masses. But when an industrial accident inside DeCorp sets off an apocalyptic chain of events, all of Earth is at risk. Gahan Corbijn, former musician turned intergalactic messenger, used to tour the world in his beloved ship, the ZERONINE. That was before the Great Evacuation of Earth sent countless humans into deep space to find a new home. With nowhere left to rock, Gahan traveled between the populated planets with his sarcastic AI companion "Alex", sending out communication drones for a price. During the Vanishing War, Gahan and Alex, onboard the ZERONINE, are struck by the enemy, sending them hurtling uncontrollably through space.

The planet Proxima B is vulnerable as division grips the colonized worlds. When a new arrival informs pilot Taft Gaurdia of a massive armada assembling near Mars, armed with advanced technology, Taft is desperate to protect the home of Earth's evacuees.

After their daughter Luna gambled with the enemy, Taft, Kaytha, and a hobbled together resistance find themselves at a loss to fight back against the growing threat from the planet Kentaurus. With the former DeCorp factions now in league with the Kentauri military, there is seemingly nothing standing in their way of taking complete control of the colonized worlds.
