"The Nameless City" is a haunting tale of cosmic horror by H. P. Lovecraft, first published in 1921. It follows an intrepid explorer who ventures deep into the Arabian desert in search of a lost, ancient ruin—a city so old that it predates all known human civilizations. As he descends into its crumbling subterranean tunnels, he uncovers strange, reptilian artifacts and eerie bas-reliefs that depict a race of grotesque, non-human beings that once ruled this desolate place.

A man ridicules Nyarlathotep, a prophet of doom, and to his horror learns why Nyarlathotep knows so much. Nyarlathotep is one of Lovecraft's most well known characters second to Cthulhu and appears in six of Lovecraft's stories: "Nyarlathotep", "The Rats in the Walls", "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath", "The Dreams in the Witch House", "The Haunter of the Dark", "The Shadow Out of Time", and his sonnet "The Fungi from Yuggoth".

The Victorians were obsessed with Egyptology and mummies. "The Outsider" is a short story by American horror writer H. P. Lovecraft. Written between March and August 1921, it was first published in Weird Tales, April 1926. In this work, a mysterious man who has been living alone in a castle for as long as he can remember decides to break free in search of human contact and light. "The Outsider" is one of Lovecraft's most commonly reprinted works and is also one of the most popular stories ever to be published in Weird Tales.

The Lurking Fear includes examples of Lovecraft's earliest weird fiction including "Hypnos", "What the Moon Brings", "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs", and "Memory" (inspiration for the 2014 film of the same name), as well as the title story, "The Lurking Fear", a traditional horror study commissioned by George Julian Houtain to be run as a serial in Home Brew magazine in 1923 that has served as the source material for multiple films and been adapted into a comic book.

During this period, his body is controlled by an unknown intelligence while his own consciousness experiences life in a vast prehistoric era, housed within the body of a member of the Great Race of Yith—an ancient, time-traveling alien species that exchanges minds with beings across time to gather knowledge.
