The Viy is a horror novella by Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, first published in the first volume of his collection of tales entitled Mirgorod (1835). The title is also the name of the demonic entity central to the plot. Every summer, there is usually a large procession of all the students moving around the area as they travel home. However, the group is reduced to three students: the theologian Khaliava, the philosopher Khoma Brut, and the rhetorician Tibery Gorobets. As the night draws in, the students hope to find a village near the main road where they can find some rest and food.

Christmas Eve is the first story in the second volume of the collection Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka by Nikolai Gogol. The story opens with a description of the winter scenery of Dikanka, Ukraine, a witch flying across the night sky and the devil stealing the moon and hiding it in his pocket, first playing with it in the sky, which no one in the village notices. Since it is the night before Christmas, the devil is free to roam around and torment people as he pleases, so he decides to find a way to get back at the village blacksmith, Vakula, because he paints religious art in the church.

Memoirs of a Madman or Diary of a Madman is a farcical short story by Nikolai Gogol. Along with The Overcoat and The Nose, Diary of a Madman is considered to be one of Gogol's greatest short stories. The tale centers on the life of a minor civil servant during the repressive era of Nicholas I. Following the format of a diary, the story shows the descent of the protagonist, Poprishchin, into insanity. Diary of a Madman, the only one of Gogol's works written in first person, follows diary-entry format.

La historia se la narra un joven a su novia, a la que considera muy crédula en temas de superstición, pero esa misma noche una serie de acontecimientos le harán replantearse sus propias creencias. La historia en cuestión trata sobre los antiguos habitantes de una casa abandonada.

Es un cuento del escritor Nikolái Gógol que relata la historia de un burócrata que escribe en su diario lo que le sucede. Poco a poco va relatando su descenso a la locura. Primero se ven pequeñas cosas como fechas que no concuerdan, luego perros hablando y mandando correspondencia, y sus comentarios a través de la historia son cada vez más raros hasta que pierde la cordura completamente.

Presenta la historia de Akaki Akákievich Bashmachkin, un funcionario de San Petersburgo que trabaja como copista en los escalafones más bajos de la administración rusa. Pese a su humilde condición, debe gastar todos sus ahorros en encargar un nuevo capote para protegerse del duro invierno petersburgués. El argumento de la obra está basado en una noticia que Gógol leyó sobre un pobre oficinista que, después de un largo ahorro, compró un rifle y lo perdió en unos juncos cuando salió a cazar.

Aufzeichnungen eines Irren / Erzählung von Nikolai Wassiljewitsch Gogol, gelesen von Werner Wilkening. Es ist die merkwürdige Geschichte des Titularrats Aksenti Iwanow Poprischtschin. Er ist ein kleiner, boshafter Beamter im Staatsdienst. Sein grauer Alltag lässt ihn jedoch zunehmend immer unglücklicher werden, sein Beruf ödet ihn an, unter seinem Chef und unter seiner Bedeutungslosigkeit leidet er. Hoffnungslos verliebt er sich in die Tochter seines Vorgesetzten und flieht schon bald in eine teuflische Scheinwelt.

Der junge und talentierte aber erfolglose Maler Andrej Petrowitsch Tschartkow erwirbt in einer kleinen Kunsthandlung das Porträt eines alten Mannes für einen Spottpreis. Besonders die ausdrucksstarke Malweise der Augen des Porträts zieht in magisch an. Nachts erwacht er in seiner ärmlichen Behausung und erblickt plötzlich in Papier zusammengerollte Golddukaten, die von dem Dargestellten des Porträts zu stammen scheinen. Zuerst hält er es für einen Traum, dann entdeckt er ein Versteck im Rahmen des Bildes mit eben diesen Dukaten.

The Cloak (sometimes translated as Overcoat) is a short story by Russian author Nikolai Gogol, published in 1842. The story and its author have had great influence on Russian literature, as expressed in a quote attributed to Fyodor Dostoyevsky: "We all come out from Gogol's 'Overcoat'." The story narrates the life and death of titular councillor Akaky Akakievich Bashmachkin, an impoverished government clerk and copyist in the Russian capital of St. Petersburg. Akaky is dedicated to his job, though little recognized in his department for his hard work.
