"Mødrenes hus" er en stærk og uforglemmelig fødselsfortælling. Det, der skulle være en helt almindelig, ukompliceret fødsel, udvikler sig til et mareridt på fem døgn for Rosa og hendes kæreste Gilbert. Nat og dag flyder sammen, og grænsen mellem drøm og virkelighed viskes ud. I morfintåger genforenes Rosa med sin døde bedstemor, og sammen begiver de sig ud på en farefuld vandring gennem skoven – for at nå frem til Mødrenes hus.
