Little Lord Fauntleroy by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a children's classic. The story is about a young boy named Cedric who lives with his mother in a tiny cottage in New York after his father dies. Luckily for Cedric, a lawyer finds him and tells him that he is the heir to the title of earl and a vast estate in England. His grandfather, the Earl of Dorincourt, has sent for him, and it is his grandfather's wish that Cedric come to the estate to learn to be an aristocrat with the new title Lord Fauntleroy.

Erzählt wird die Geschichte des kleinen Cedrics, der in einem Vorort von New York lebte, aus der Sicht des Gemischtwarenhändlers Hobbs. Plötzlich taucht ein Gesandter seines Großvaters,des Earl of Dorincourt, und holt ihn nach England. Der Großvater, ein sturer und eigenbrödlerischer Mensch, taut durch die offenherzige Art seines Enkels auf.

Unbeschwert lebt der siebenjährige Cedric Errol mit seiner Mutter in New York, bis er eines Tages völlig überraschend nach England bestellt wird, weil er der letzte Erbe eines alten Adelsgeschlechtes ist.

Der siebenjährige Cedric Errol erfährt zu seiner Überraschung, dass er eines Tages Erbe der Grafschaft seines englischen Großvaters sein wird. Emily Fox-Seton is a simple but good-hearted woman struggling to make ends meet while attempting to maintain the dignity of someone distantly related to the aristocracy. The Marquis of Walderhurst is an awkward but eligible bachelor being comically pursued by a pageant of unmarried ladies. Mary, unloved and selfish, finds friendship and happiness helping her neurotic, invalid cousin become strong and healthy. Nature's powerful magic touches both children as they toil to revive their secret garden. The story alludes to some very modern themes including the ability of mental beliefs to create health, the strength of group optimism, and the restorative power of nature.

Sara Crew is the spoiled little daughter of rich parents. After her mother's death, she is sent to a "Select Seminary For Young Ladies". Then, Sara suddenly loses her father and money and faces the misery of existing on charity.
