The Herons take to the high seas in the action-packed eighth instalment of the Brotherband Chronicles. In a battle of Skandians vs Temujai, the brotherband are facing their most formidable enemy yet. They sense they're being watched but don't encounter the locals until they have to rescue two children from a marauding bear. This action earns them the gratitude of the Mawagansett tribe, and the two groups finally meet. But the peace is short lived.

Will and Maddie are sent to the neighbouring kingdom of Celtica to investigate reports of terrifying direwolves, an ancient species thought to be extinct. What they discover is even more of a threat - a sorceress who has brought direwolves and Wargals under her control and is building an army of creatures both living and supernatural. After receiving help from locals, Will and Maddie learn the name of the sorceress behind these strange and dangerous attacks – Arazan.

Will and Maddie are in Toscana on a diplomatic mission when word comes of a cavalry force crossing the northern body and marauding through the countryside. At the behest of the emperor, the rangers head north to investigate. They discover that the invaders are a group of Temujai – a reconnaissance force searching for a place to penetrate and invade. So Will and Maddie must split up to gather forces and information in order to push the Temujai back once again.

For years now, the Skandians have been the guardians of the Stormwhite Sea, stopping piracy wherever they find it. But there are some who don’t like the Skandians' new role. When their enemies strike at the heart of Hallasholm, damaging every ship and stealing the pride of the fleet, there is one hope. Hal's ship, the newly rebuilt Heron, was being repaired so the attackers didn't find her. Hal and the Heron brotherband—along with the Oberjarl, Erak—set off to find Wolfwind.

Da vi forlod Will Treaty og hans lærling Maddie i sidste bog, var deres plan om at redde prinsen af Gallica gået helt galt, og de er nu fanget på Chateau des Falaises i Gallica. Den grusomme Baron de Lassigny har ikke i sinde at lade hverken dem eller prinsen gå. Will og Maddie er derimod fast besluttet på at slippe fri. Maddie udfordres til kamp mod en ridder, og hun vinder, men dømmes derefter til døden af baronen. Nu er der ingen vej udenom, Maddie og Will skal flygte fra Falaise-slottet. Spændende fortsættelse på Flanagans populære serie. I Hallasholm dyster Stig I den årlige Maktig-konkurrence for at kåre Skandias mægtigste kriger. Længe før de blev helte, var Crowley blot en ung Ranger uden eget len, og Halt var på flugt fra et naborige... Baron Morgarath er flygtet for at undgå sin straf for forræderi. Men Rangerne ved, at han er i gang med at planlægge sit næste træk, og Kong Duncan forbereder sig på krig. Halt påtager sig den farlige opgave at begive sig ind på fjendtligt territorium og holde øje med Morgarath.

De er uønskede, Hal, Stig og de andre. Drenge, som ingen gider have noget at gøre med. Skandierne er ellers kendt for at være store og stærke, bare ikke disse drenge. Men det betyder ikke, at de ikke har evner. Og mod. Og de har i høj grad bevist begge dele i første bind. I andet bind er Hal taget af sted med sin gruppe på jagt efter piraterne, der har stjålet Hallasholms mest dyrebare skat for næsen af drengene. Hvis Hal og de andre ikke kan få skatten tilbage vil de blive udvist af Hallasholm.

I "Jagten på Andomal" bliver Hal og våbenbrødrene nødt til at begive sig ud på et farligt færd. De forfølger piraten Zavac ned af brusende og farlige floder med voldsomme vandfald mod Fort Ragusa, hvor Zavac er på vej til enten for at skjule sig eller for at sælge Andomal. Om bord har de fået følgeskab af pigen Lydia som selv er på jagt efter Zavac da han i et piratangreb mod hendes by Limmat dræbte hendes elskede bedstefar. Hal indser, at hvis de skal have en chance for at overvinde Zavac bliver han nødt til selv at møde ham enemand i en kamp, hvor der kun er en der overlever.
