In den Jahren 2020 und 2021, der Zeit der Covid-19-Pandemie, ereignete sich ein bemerkenswertes Schauspiel. Für Richard David Precht ein Anlass, darüber nachzudenken, was eigentlich die Pflicht des Fürsorge- und Vorsorgestaates gegenüber seinen Bürgern ist und was die Pflicht seiner Bürger.
