Dark Adventure Radio Theatre presents a seasonal treat to enjoy on a dark winter’s eve. Solstice, after all, is the longest night of the year, and to celebrate the season we bring you a dark tale brimming with nameless cults, charnel creatures, and one of our listeners' favorite authors himself: H.P. Lovecraft. Join us for a Dickensian tale, combing "The Festival", "Pickman's Model", and "The Outsider", which blend together to form touching tale of the solstice.

A man ridicules Nyarlathotep, a prophet of doom, and to his horror learns why Nyarlathotep knows so much. Nyarlathotep is one of Lovecraft's most well known characters second to Cthulhu and appears in six of Lovecraft's stories: "Nyarlathotep", "The Rats in the Walls", "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath", "The Dreams in the Witch House", "The Haunter of the Dark", "The Shadow Out of Time", and his sonnet "The Fungi from Yuggoth".

The Victorians were obsessed with Egyptology and mummies. It was during the second half of the 19th century that many of the most significant archeological finds were made in Egypt, and stories of the revenge of the mummies on anyone raiding their tombs, stealing their treasures or unwrapping their corpses abounded. Der gute Dr. Watson versieht wie jede Woche seinen freiwilligen Samariterdienst im Londoner East End, als er plötzlich mit einer hageren Gestalt konfrontiert wird, die sich vor Schmerzen krümmt und mit Bisswunden übersäht auf einer Pritsche abgelegt wird. Wovon ich heute berichten möchte, hatte sich im Spätherbst des Jahres 1896 ereignet. Die Geschehnisse fanden im Londoner Sankt-Lukas-Hospital für Geisteskranke und in der kleinen Ortschaft Castle Hedingham statt.

Von was ich heute berichten möchte, handelt um einen Meeresgott, aber nicht etwa um den römischen Gott Neptun oder dem griechischen Wassergott Poseidon, nein, es handelt sich um den Meeresgott Dagon, eine Abscheulichkeit, wenn man den Berichten Glauben schenken möchte. Ich meinerseits denke da eher an Fabeln und Mythen, wobei der Mensch selbst zu den größten Abscheulichkeiten fähig ist – noch dazu, wenn man im Namen einer Gottheit Menschenopfer zelebriert. So passiert in London, genauer gesagt im Londoner Abwassernetz.
