Day after day we read of the caliphate and the Qur'an, of Sunni and Shi'a, Salafis and Sufis, integration and isolation, radicals and refugees. Almost a quarter of the world's populate is Muslim. It is clear that understanding the modern world requires knowing something about Islam. But while much is said and written about Islam and the global trends and historic events connected to it, little attention is given to placing these phenomena within their greater historical, religious and intellectual context.

Sahih Al Bukhari is one of the Kutub al-Sittah (six major hadith collections) of Sunni Islam, compiled by a Muslim scholar Muhammad al-Bukhari. It was completed around 846 CE/232 AH. Sunni Muslims view this as one of the two most trusted collections of hadith along with Sahih Muslim. The Arabic word sahih translates as "authentic" or "correct". Sahih al-Bukhari, together with Sahih Muslim, is known as the Sahihayn.

Farid ud-Din Attar occupies a prominent place in the roll of distinguished Persian poets. His most famous work on Sufism, written eight centuries ago, is the Mantiq-ut-Tayr, or the "Colloquy of the Birds," an allegorical poem in which the gifted mystic describes the quest of the birds (symbolizing Sufi pilgrims) for the Simurg (the Lord of Creation).

Sending across the word of God to the world

In the audiobook Quranic Wisdom, the author Maulana Wahiduddin Khan explains that if you read the Quran, you will find that it gives wisdom on all of the subjects relating to human beings. This audiobook uses verses from the Quran and reflects on topics that everyone can relate to. The basic theme of the Quran is the creation plan of God. The primary purpose of the Quran is to reveal that divine plan according to which the world was created, and people were settled in it.

The Koran is not only one of the most influential books of prophetic literature but also a literary masterpiece in it’s own right. Universally accepted by Muslims to be the infallible Word of God as revealed to Mohammed by the Angel Gabriel nearly 1,400 years ago, the Koran still provides the rules of conduct fundamental to the Arab way of life.

The easiest way to learn about Islam is through the traditions of Mohammed called the Hadith. The Koran repeatedly commands every Muslim to follow the perfect example of Mohammed’s life, his words and deeds, referred to as the Sunna. The Sunna includes the Hadith (Mohammed’s traditions) and the Sira (Mohammed’s biography). Since there is not enough information in the Koran for Muslims to practice Islam and understand the doctrine, the easiest way to learn about it is from Mohammed’s traditions. The Hadith gives us fascinating and detailed accounts of his life.
