Il bel Salaì, allievo e figliastro di Leonardo da Vinci, ha messo la testa a posto. Dopo una vita passata tra donne, scorribande e mangiate si è sistemato con moglie e figli su un terreno di Leonardo, dove ha costruito una casetta. Roma, primavera 1501. Salaì, apprendista pittore, scapestrato e sciupafemmine, scrive a un ignoto destinatario lo sgrammaticato resoconto del suo viaggio nell'Urbe.
