"L'Étourdi ou les contretemps" est la première comédie en 5 actes et en vers de Molière. Elle fut créée à Lyon en 1655 et reprise à Paris dès l'installation de la troupe en 1658, au théâtre du "Petit Bourbon". Lélie, fils de Pandolfe, aime Célie, esclave de Truffaldin aimée aussi de Léandre. Pour faire triompher son amour, il a recours aux stratagèmes de Mascarille, son valet, mais les fait échouer par ses étourderies. Acte II, scènes 1 à 7. "Le Dépit amoureux" est lié à une autre étape provinciale de Molière, Béziers. La pièce y fut donnée en 1656.

"Le pain de ménage" (1898) est une comédie en un acte de Jules Renard, à portée autobiographique, et souvent jouée avec une autre pièce de l'auteur, "Le plaisir de rompre" (1897). Deux couples sont réunis pour un séjour de vacances. Marthe et Pierre, dont les conjoints respectifs se sont absentés après le dîner, évoquent leur vie de couple et l'issue possible de leurs relations. Extraits.

Maurice rend visite à Blanche, femme mûre qui est sa maîtresse, qu'il quitte alors qu'il prépare son mariage avec une jeune fille fortunée de sa génération. Avec le génial Louis de Funès dans le rôle de Géronte. Les fourberies de Scapin est une comédie de Molière en prose, créée en 1671 et fortement empreinte de comédie italienne. Du vivant de Molière, qui interprétait Scapin, elle ne connut qu'un faible succès ; à sa mort il devient immense, jusqu'à en faire une des pièces les plus jouées du répertoire français. En l'absence de leurs pères partis en voyage, Octave, fils d'Argante, s'est épris de Hyacinthe, jeune fille pauvre et de naissance inconnue qu'il vient d'épouser, ainsi que Léandre, fils de Géronte, de la "jeune Égyptienne" Zerbinette.

Aristotle's Poetics (Greek: Περὶ ποιητικῆς; Latin: De Poetica) is the earliest surviving work of dramatic theory and first extant philosophical treatise to focus on literary theory. Purgatorio (Italian: [purɡaˈtɔːrjo]; Italian for "Purgatory") is the second part of Dante's Divine Comedy, following the Inferno, and preceding the Paradiso. The poem was written in the early 14th century. "Le Tartuffe ou l'Imposteur" est une comédie de Molière en cinq actes et en vers créée le 5 février 1669 sur la scène du Théâtre du Palais-Royal. Orgon est l'archétype du personnage de cour tombé sous la coupe de Tartuffe, un hypocrite et un faux dévot. Il est, ainsi que sa mère, Madame Pernelle, dupe de Tartuffe. Ce dernier réussit à le manipuler en singeant la dévotion et il est même parvenu à devenir son directeur de conscience.

"The Theogony" (“Birth of the Gods”) is a poem by Hesiod which describes the origin, position and relationships of the gods of the Greek pantheon. Hesiod created a synthesis of the diverse Greek traditions concerning the gods, in the form of a hymn invoking Zeus and the Muses. The Theogony is the first known Greek mythical cosmogony. However, it should not be considered as the authoritative source of Greek mythology, but rather as a portrait of a dynamic tradition that was recorded around 700 BCE.

There have been many translators of Chinese literature and poetry over time, but Arthur Waley stands out as one of the best known and most loved. This is perhaps because he had an attribute that most others lacked, which is his poetic abilities. Waley was as much a poet himself as a translator, and while his scholarly erudition was matched by a few others at his time, none ever managed to bring out the true character of Chinese poetry quite so well.

Thyestes is a tragic rendition of the fraternal civil war within House Atreides. This 1st century A.D. play was written by the Stoic philosopher Seneca and has been translated into readable prose for a 21st century audience.
