Although known primarily for the novels Kidnapped and Treasure Island, his works are by no means reserved for the youth market.

In the Scottish canon, to be placed alongside Burns is high praise indeed, but it’s a rightful place for Robert Louis Stevenson, one of Scotland’s finest novelists. Born in 1850, he crammed much into his 44 years travelling widely to France, the United States, Samoa, and the South Seas. Of course he is widely feted for his classics Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde, Treasure Island, and poetry volumes such as A Child’s Garden Of Verses. Here we have his short stories "Olliah" and "The Body Snatchers".

Three interrelated stories make up the plot of The Suicide Club. They each stand on their own, but there is an overall plot that brings them together. It centers around the hero, Prince Florizel of Bohemia. He attempts to solve the mystery of a strange club that turns out to have a very different purpose than its name suggests.

First published in 1886, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde is perhaps the most famous example of the gothic horror novella. Gabriel John Utterson, a sombre London lawyer, becomes concerned for the safety and sanity of his friend and client Dr. Henry Jekyll, after the doctor begins associating with an unseemly young man named Edward Hyde. Following a spate of crimes, including blackmail and murder, and with all fingers pointing at Hyde, the lawyer sets out to free his friend from the dreadful influence of his new acquaintance. Not everything, however, is as it seems.
