Nachdem Felix Jäger auf der Flucht vor der Obrigkeit die Stadt Altdorf hastig verlassen musste, schwor er dem Zwerg Gotrek Gurnisson einen Eid, dessen Todessaga niederzuschreiben. Bei Tageslicht besehen bewahrheiten sich dann Felix' schlimmste Befürchtungen, denn er erfährt, dass Gotrek ein sogenannter Slayer ist - ein Zwerg, der dazu verdammt ist, einen heroischen Tod im Kampf zu suchen.

In den stinkenden Kloaken der Stadt Nuln wimmelt es vor Skaven, vom Chaos verdorbene Rattenmenschen, die danach trachten, mit ihrer arkanen Warphexerei das Gefüge des Imperiums zu untergraben. Angeführt vom Grauen Seher Thanquol sind die Diener der Gehörnten Ratte fest entschlossen, diese Bastion der Menschheit zu Fall zu bringen.

An ominous gunslinger teams up with two contemptible criminals to try and achieve financial freedom. The three go all over the US to fight and run against gangs, the law, the military, even crazed bounty hunters. The US is recovering from the wars with the South American and other European powers. While the Union are preoccupied with storing wealth to all parts of the country, Glenn, Jane and Beck will have their sights on the Government’s resources. In the Southwest, the rules and standards tend to vary wildly depending on the small towns the three land on.

When the brothers head into the small cow town of Crossville, close by Devil Creek, all they want is to stock up on supplies and rest their weary horses. Instead, they find themselves in the middle of a bloody range war that’s literally split the town down the middle. The warring factions have set up camp on either side of Main Street and the newcomers ride in on a deserted strip of no man’s land where anything - and nothing good - is liable to happen.
