Beloved by generations of children and adults, Aesop's Fables continue to be a source of pleasure and learning for millions around the world. Animalistic morality tales, short in nature, help young minds to learn many of the rules and manners of our society. The tales have been translated, interpreted and presented in myriad ways over the years. Over the past few years, Anthony Richardson has been putting his own spin on the tales in the Ginx TV show The First Hour.

It is both amazing and wonderful that so much of the richness of our language and our moral education still owes a huge debt to a Greek slave who was executed over 2,000 years ago. Yet "sour grapes", "crying wolf", "a dog in a manger", "actions speak louder than words", "honesty is the best policy", and literally hundreds of other metaphors, axioms, and ideas that are now woven into the very fabric of Western culture all came from Aesop's Fables.

By their nature fables are "fabulous," larger than life, the characters often using wit and guile to save themselves from circumstances. In away, Aesop's Fables are morality plays. They illustrate what was fundamental to Greek culture. Their appeal to us lies in a logic we can still understand. This in turn awakens an appreciation of how far ahead of their time the Greeks were, how enduring their thought was, and how much we have to be grateful to them. This collection features 185 of these famous fables.
