  • Excellence in Organisations, especially Construction, with Ramaswamy
    Dec 29 2024

An inspiring chat resulting in the following wisdom

Excellence is all about thorough application of best practices observed in each element that leads to the best-in-class outcome.

Excellence is also about the disciplined focused meticulous work with attention to detail.

Cascaded top-down supervision of the quality of work through the hierarchy by all leaders is a lynchpin of excellence by constant mentoring to evolve an excellence attitude.

Excellence comes from within through personal dignity and honour, and key is inculcating this mindset in everyone.

The front-line-leaders, ideally should spend a maximum of 5-10% of their time for activities other than daily work management, supervision and mentoring.

Enabling the front-line-leaders to spend at least 90-95% of their time for daily work management, supervision and mentoring, using technology, combined with regular retraining of the skills needed for leading individual contributors, can leapfrog excellence in India.

Proper rewards and recognition further catalyses the excellence culture in organisations.

Attempting product and service excellence based on assumptions of the stakeholder needs and expectations is a recipe for disaster. The key is to speak and ask the stakeholders, especially potential customers.

Startup excellence is all about creating and offering value added products and service at least or more than the prevailing market price, while creating a significant value based on the Total Cost of Ownership. The key is to work on branding and positioning from the initial stage, while ensuring survival till the sale with the right price is possible.

Continual Learning driven by a purpose is the key to excellence.

  • Driving Excellence in Large Organisations with Venkat
    Dec 15 2024

An inspiring Chat with Venkateshwar Akella on Driving Excellence in Large Organisations and ideitifying the key drivers as:

Excellence is all about significantly adding value to all the stakeholders, while continually progressing. The focus on stakeholders are balanced in private companies and skewed in Government organisations. Leaders with a clear purpose with commitment is the key for excellence. –Recruitment based on merit is the key to creating excellence in organisations. –Making people accountable for decisions and actions with an effective and transparent performance management system is equally important. –Differentiating, rewarding and recognising based on performance, objectively measured, is the driver for excellence. –General managers with a thorough experience in one core functional area before a good general management experience makes the leaders effective. Excellence models support creating sustainability by integrating systems and processes in people for measuring both during implementation and execution. Every day drill on the latest updated SoPs and rules to be followed with a close to real time monitoring is a standard routine in large excellent organisations, with the aid of technology and AI.
