  • Re-View #98: USWA 9/7/91 (THINGS GET HEAVY!)
    Apr 8 2026

Things are getting loud, chaotic, and downright ridiculous in the USWA and we are HERE for all of it!

On Episode #98 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View USWA Podcast, Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, Brian Tramel, and special guest Robb Helt break down the September 7, 1991 episode of USWA which is a show packed with wild promos, heated rivalries, and some truly unforgettable moments!

Right out of the gate, we’ve got:

    • The fallout from the Dragon Master’s one week Unified title reign (one week too many)
    • Christopher “Honey” Love in peak form...loud, outrageous, and absolutely carrying every segment he’s in
    • The debut of the PYTs (Pretty Young Things) Unfortunately this isn't Koko and Norvell…but let’s just say, they do make an impression

But the real story of the episode?

Christopher "Honey" Love vs. Ronnie P. Gossett.

When Jeff Jarrett & Robert Fuller bring in Gossett to counter Honey Love, it creates one of the most bizarre, hilarious, and heat filled manager confrontations you’ll ever see. This isn’t just a promo battle...it’s a full-blown war of insults, chaos, and old school Memphis energy. However, it seems that amongst the hosts, Gene is the only one who doesn't hate Ronnie P. Gossett.

There's much, much more but this episode has everything....great angles, weird moments, hilarious promos, and the kind of unpredictable energy that keeps us coming back each week for more!

  • Re-View #97: USWA 8/31/91 ("Dirty" Dutch evens the odds!)
    Apr 1 2026

On this episode of the Retro Wrestling Re-View USWA Podcast, Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel break down the August 31, 1991 episode featuring a new Unified World Champion, one of the most outrageous promos you’ll ever see, and a show that somehow manages to have both great wrestling AND complete madness at the same time.

We kick things off with the shocking title change as the Dragon Master steals the Unified World Championship from Jerry Lawler thanks to some questionable officiating and even more questionable interference. Then… Christopher “Honey” Love delivers an all-timer promo complete with a proposed dress code for the fans on Monday night that might be the most Memphis thing ever put on television.

    From there:

    • A fantastic TV match between Dr. Tom Prichard and Nightmare Danny Davis that reminds you just how good this roster could be
    • A chaotic Miss Texas vs. Sweet Georgia Brown ringside brawl
    • Dutch Mantell returns and immediately starts roasting his own WCW “Desperado” run while teaming with Lawler
    • Reggie B. Fine continues to be the most unintentionally hilarious man in wrestling
    • Handsome Jimmy Valiant and Sweet Georgia Brown turn Dave Brown’s life into an HR violation nightmare.
    • And yes… an unprotected chair shot from Bill Dundee that sounds like it echoed through three counties

Plus, we run down the absolutely STACKED Labor Day Star Wars card featuring 14 matches, 37 wrestlers, along with a TWO RING, TRIPLE CHANCE BATTLE ROYAL.

This show had everything. Great wrestling, ridiculous angles, uncomfortable moments, and Memphis insanity at its finest.

  • Re-View #96: Special Edition - BT interviews Rockin' Randy
    Mar 25 2026

In the process of breaking down Rockin’ Randy’s 1991 USWA run on the podcast, Brian Tramel goes straight to the source. In this special episode, Rockin’ Randy clears up the confusion about the Goons, explains how he was sometimes wrestling multiple matches a night (as himself AND under a mask), and gives the full behind the scenes story of the infamous Miss Texas angle.

Randy also gives his candid thoughts on:

    • Jerry Jarrett & the state of the territory in ’91
    • Eric Embry’s booking
    • Bill Dundee, Danny Davis, Tony Anthony, Tom Prichard & more
    • The grind of working Memphis during the final days of the territory system

If you’ve been following our 1991 USWA reviews, this is essential listening. The context alone will change how you watch those episodes.

  • Re-View #95: USWA 8/24/91 (Jimbo returns to Mempho!!)
    Mar 18 2026

Episode #95 of the Retro Wrestling Re-View USWA Podcast takes us to the August 24, 1991 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling and this one is chaotic from start to finish.

Handsome Jimmy Valiant invades the studio, steals hats, kisses announcers, and warns Eric Embry to "NEVAH PULL MY LEVAH!" (Not sure what that means but somehow it works for Valiant) The Dirty White Boy signs a waiver only to immediately get jumped and beatdown by Eric Embry and Dr. Tom Prichard. Miss Texas slaps, kicks, and humiliates Rockin’ Randy in one of the wildest segments of the year.

Christopher Love (yes… that Christopher Love aka Bert Prentice) unveils the mysterious Dragon Master, a legitimate 7-foot-3 giant sent to eliminate Jerry Lawler from the USWA. Meanwhile, Lord Humongous’ mask finally comes off in perhaps the most uncomfortable studio segment we’ve seen yet (seriously, it was...you just have to watch it).

    Plus:

    • Bill Dundee vs. Danny Davis continues to simmer
    • Jarrett & Fuller defend against another makeshift challenger team
    • Reggie B. Fine introduces “The Bruiser”, whoever it may be
    • Another in our series of Awesome Kong vs. Freezer Thompson matches (this time a tag team match)
    • Plus: Humongous gets unmasked but we still don't know who the hell he is....

It’s messy. It’s chaotic. It’s pure 1991 USWA. Join Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel as they break it all down with humor, context, and maybe a few strong opinions along the way.

  • Re-View #94: USWA 8/17/91 (Honey Love Presents: The Dragon Master)
    Mar 11 2026

This week, the Retro Re-View Gang break down one of the most bizarrely entertaining episodes of USWA TV in recent memory featuring gimmick changes, booking head scratchers, heated rivalries, and the unforgettable arrival of a certain “Honey”-voiced manager.

    On this episode:

    - MC Slammer is born – Brickhouse Brown trades in the tough guy persona for a rap gimmick that leaves the studio crowd underwhelmed to say the least....
    - Lord Humongous… but which one? – A Sid Vicious highlight reel is followed by a noticeably less “humongous” in-studio version, leading to one of the strangest bait and switch moments in Memphis TV history.
    - Bill Dundee vs. Danny Davis escalates – A simple question (“Are we still friends?”) turns into punches, pride, and a no pinfall stipulation that cranks up the intensity.
    - Jeff Jarrett & Eric Embry’s war continues – Fireballs, blood, shaved heads, and a Lights Out match looming at the Mid-South Coliseum.
    - Enter Christopher Love (“Honey…”) and the Dragon Master – The Dawn of Bert Prentice in Memphis, and a 7'3" monster allegedly coming for Jerry Lawler.
    - Handsome Jimmy Valiant returns to challenge for the Southern Title.
    - And yes… that fireball botch gets discussed.

As always, they break it down segment by segment, looking at what worked, what didn’t, and what in the world they were thinking.

  • Re-View #93: USWA 8/10/91 (The Godfather & his Goon Squad)
    Mar 4 2026

This week on the Retro Wrestling Re-View USWA Podcast, we head back to August 10, 1991, and what starts as a fairly standard Memphis TV episode quickly turns into one of the more chaotic, heated hours we’ve seen in weeks.

Fresh off “Homecoming ’91,” Eddie Marlin announces a Lights Out match for the Mid-South Coliseum featuring:

    - Dirty White Boy & Dirty White Girl vs. Eric Embry & Miss Texas
    - No DQ, No Time Limit
    - LOSER GETS THEIR HEAD SHAVED

Embry immediately threatens to “make Eddie Marlin pay with his life” (again), because subtlety is overrated.

    The Goon Squad Arrives

    - Boss Winters reinvents himself as “The Godfather” and unveils his newest creation… The Goon Squad.

The real meat of this episode?

    - Bill Dundee and Danny Davis take their fractured friendship to another level. The Light Heavyweight Title now carries a $40,000 Japan payday attached to it and suddenly this isn’t about friendship or belts anymore. Dundee calls Davis greedy. Davis calls Dundee a backbiter.
What started as mutual respect turns into one of the most emotionally real promos we’ve seen in months. This was Memphis storytelling at its best.

    Plus We Discuss:

    • Why Memphis constantly undercut its own stipulations
    • The long-term damage of not paying off angles and delivering finishes
    • Whether Dirty White Boy was legitimately injured?
    • Awesome Kong vs. Freezer Thompson II (the rematch nobody asked for)
    • And Dave Brown absolutely not tolerating nonsense this week

Episode #93 delivers chaos, emotional storytelling, and one of the most talked about punches of the year.

And yes… we spend entirely too much time talking about The Goon Squad.

  • Re-View #92: USWA 8/3/91 (Friends Today... Enemies Monday Night!)
    Feb 25 2026

The USWA rolls into August 1991 and things are about as calm and sensible as a chainsaw wielding maniac running loose in Memphis… which is to say, not calm at all. Gene Jackson, Josh Briley, and Brian Tramel dive into another wild Saturday morning episode of USWA Championship Wrestling featuring one of the most bizarre (and oddly unforgettable) stretches of television the territory ever produced.

Leatherface continues terrorizing the promotion, complete with homemade horror movie vignettes that somehow managed to both scare kids and confuse grown adults while Jerry Lawler shifts his focus from championship gold to settling personal scores once and for all.

Eric Embry melts down over Cousin Harold, tag team champions Jeff Jarrett and Robert Fuller deliver another history lesson disguised as a promo while everyone "enjoys" their "Walking in Memphis" video....again, and the Dirty White Boy and Dirty White Girl promise yet another Back Alley Street Brawl where somebody might wind up leaving the building without their dignity… or their clothes.

Add in the debut of a mysterious challenger named Sampson, Reggie B. Fine stealing every second of television time he’s given, and one of the greatest “friends… until we’re not” promos you’ll ever see unfold between "Superstar" Bill Dundee and "Nightmare" Danny Davis and you’ve got peak USWA fun! If you love Memphis wrestling at its weirdest, funniest, and most unpredictable… this one’s for you.

  • Re-View #91: USWA 7/27/91 (Who’s “Cuzzun Harruld”?)
    Feb 18 2026

If you like your Retro Re-View episodes with maximum Memphis logic, big TV angles, and the kind of side commentary that turns one absurd segment into a 10 minute discussion, then Episode #91 is absolutely for you.

This week, the show is basically three things:

    • Jarrett getting jumped and coming back with a plank to split it over a Barroom Brawler's head!
    • Tony Anthony turning a wedding proposal into another battle with the Texas crew
    • Lawler/Reggie/Kong turning a title feud into a comedy bit about gold, jewelry, and “stolen property”

The conversation stretches out deeper on:

    • How the Survival Cage stipulation is designed to force brutality
    • The “Cousin Harold” mystery and why Memphis loved the “huge guy who can fight”(but can't wrestle) hook
    • The studio brawl structure and why Marlin/Neighbors getting involved matters
    • The exact ways USWA TV is selling the Pipkin card and whether this episode would’ve gotten them to buy a ticket
    • The Monday night results fallout and what it means for the next stretch of TV

Plus: this was the last week at the Pipkin Building as the Mid South Coliseum issue has been resolved!
