• Why Your Brain Keeps You Stuck – And How to Break Free
    Nov 11 2024

In this first official episode of Beyond the Coil, I’m sharing an empowering insight from a recent coaching session that explores how our minds cling to familiar beliefs, even when they no longer serve us. Many of us carry deep-rooted stories of self-doubt that feel safe simply because they’re familiar, reinforced by our survival instincts and life experiences.

Today, we’ll dig into why these thought patterns are so persistent and explore how recognizing and reframing them can create space for self-empowerment and growth. I’ll touch on the science of neuroplasticity and polyvagal theory, showing how our brains are wired to return to “safe” thoughts, even when they limit us.

Note: I recorded today’s episode as a voice memo into my phone, fully NOT expecting it to turn into a podcast episode (much less the inspiration for a new season!) You can expect future episodes to be more curated, with salient protocols, and of course, better quality audio. See the actual first episode as the example: Election Season Stress? How to Self-Regulate with Polyvagal Techniques

If my story resonates with you—if you're feeling stuck, disconnected, or sensing that there’s something more waiting for you—I’m here to help. Transformation starts with clarity, and that clarity begins with a compelling vision.

  • Election Season Stress? How to Self-Regulate with Polyvagal Techniques
    Nov 1 2024

As the election draws near, it’s easy to feel swept away. This episode offers essential tools for maintaining emotional balance in these turbulent times.

We dive into the basics of polyvagal theory and how our nervous system reacts to stress, especially under high-stakes circumstances. You’ll learn quick, accessible self-regulation protocols—shaking off freeze state, releasing fight-or-flight, and reinforcing a sense of safety. Inspired by Ruby Rose Fox’s techniques, these strategies are designed to help you recognize and manage your emotional states, giving you a calm edge amid the noise. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed or simply seeking steadiness, tune in to empower your emotional resilience this election season.

Note: Today’s episode was supposed to be 2nd in the season, but I bumped the release date up due to the election.

  • 4. Play & Pleasure
    Feb 17 2023

Johan Huizinga’s definition of “play” reminds me of Octavio Paz’s definition of “eroticism” – that it exists for the sake of itself. Which also sounds like something God allegedly said – “I am that I am.” This puts pleasure and play decidedly close to God in my factoring, though, it’s true, I’ve never been too good at maths.

I had been waiting forever for an adaptation of an Octavia Butler work. So when I saw the ad for the Hulu show, I counted down the days. I prepped by reading the book in a couple days. Warning – this episode contains spoilers.
