Soul Mechanics Podcast

By: Scott Russell
  • Summary

  • For many years, I have battled with mental health issues. Instead of facing my demons, I turned to alcohol, self-loathing, self-pity and destructive thought patterns and behaviours. By setting up this podcast, I hope to embark on a journey of self-discovery, education, recovery and growth. Through fascinating interviews with those who have lived it, this podcast aims to build a strong community of support and understanding, raise awareness and offer insights, resources and connection with others who understand what you are going through. #MentalHealthMatters #ItsOKNotToBeOK

In this episode, my first ever guest interview, I'll be speaking to Aaron Edward Olson who is a prisoner of the Washington State Department of Corrections. Aaron is serving 51 and a half years to life for crimes he committed when he was just 18 years old. Listen as Aaron openly and honestly talks us through his journey from being brought up in a broken home, surviving as a young boy in a violent and impoverished neighbourhood, drug addiction, a life of crime and serious mental illness to the committing of his crimes, his incarceration, life in prison, campaigning for prison reform and trying to make a difference in the lives of others with mental health issues. Aaron has his own podcast series, recorded from his 6x8 prison cell and publishes content regularly via the below platforms. Please check out Aaron's Patreon, Twitter and website to find out more about his life and story. www.aaronedwardolson.com The Abolition Christian℠ | creating PODCASTS, Original Writings, Poetry, all things PRISON. | Patreon @Aaronolson1986 on Twitter Massive thanks go to Aaron himself for being so open and honest, to Aaron's best friend and administrator Herman as well as Aaron's wife Tracy for helping set up and facilitate the interview!
