• Your Brain Is the Original Algorithm: Using Neuroscience to Turn Goals into Reality, with Tanya Tarr, MS, NBC-HWC
    Apr 25 2025

Begin harnessing the power of your brain's natural capcities to make your goals a reality.

In this episode, I talk with Tanya Tarr, MS, NBC-HWC, behavioral scientist and executive health coach. She's studied human behavior for over 20 years and her insights will help you understand the "cheat codes" to help your brain help you achieve your goals.

In this episode we talk about:

    • How our brain is the "original algorithm"--whatever we feed it (negativity, self criticism, positivity, self confidence), we get more of
    • Why some positive affirmations don't work--we need to affirm ourselves based on things we have already accomplished rather than what we haven't
    • How to access the "cheat codes" for the brain--which will help you increase the chances that you'll get to your goals
    • The evidence and science behind how high performing individuals--olympians, entertainers, etc--stay at that high performing level for the long term
    • The value of a "reset" for your body and mind
    • How consistent, incremental progress helps you get to your goal
    • Practical examples of what these actions look like in real life and related to personal finances
    • What "manifestation" and "the law of attraction" misses and how to use research based insights to help what you want in life to materialize

If you're interested in getting to your financial goals in an authentic way--and like a little humor too--this episode is for you!

  • Divorce and Uncoupling: What You Need to Know to Protect Your Finances with Nikki Tucker, CDFA®
    Mar 14 2025

DIVORCE/UNCOUPLING: A difficult journey and sometimes a necessary one.

If you are considering separation, divorce, or uncoupling from your parnter, this is the episode for you! (Even if you're not...every woman should listen to this episode).

I had the good fortune to talk with Nikki Tucker, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®) and founder of The FIIRM Approach, on what every woman in a relationship should do to make sure she can protect her financial standing.

    Nikki and I talk about:

    • The current economic environment and how that should be a motivation for every woman to get her finances in order
    • The importance of basic awareness of your finances: too often, we might avoid our finances or outsource them to our partner in relationships--we need to be in touch with them so that we have clarity on what's actually going on
    • The reality that most women leave a relationship and experience poorer financial outcomes than their male ex-partners
    • The importance of getting usernames and passwords organized and running your credit to make sure you have access to your financial systems and records
    • How preparation can support you in weathering the emotional aspects of divorce/uncoupling
    • The importance of connecting with your future self when we're in the middle of divorce proceedings and negotiations; remembering that you want your future self to say: "Thank you for looking out for us."

I have been wanting to talk with a CDFA® for a long time so that our community of podcast listeners can have tools they can use to take action when considering and navigating the divorce and uncoupling process.

  • Giving Ourselves Permission to Make BIG Money with Taylor Gilbert, LCSW
    Jan 25 2025

Why on earth would I need to give myself permission to make BIG money?

On the surface, it seems counterintuitive. Obviously.

But...there are many social norms and expectations that may be keeping you from giving yourself this permission, especially as someone that has received the gendered conditioning that comes with being assigned the female sex at birth.

In this episode, I talk with Taylor Gilbert, licensed clinical social worker and author of the blog Social Work to Wealth where she tracks her journey to pay off over 250k+ in debt--she's already paid off 85k!--and retire in the next 15 years.

    Taylor and I talk about:

    • Why we don't talk about money and we associate making BIG money with greed
    • The lack of strong role models for women making big money
    • Why helping professionals specifically might struggle with giving ourselves this permission and how to move past it
    • Adding up all of your debt and feeling all of the strong emotions that come with it: shame, overwhelm, embarrassment--and why this is a necessary first step to get to the goal of being debt free
    • Normalizing making BIG money and setting and achieving big financial goals so that we can see that it's possible and then become the person that makes BIG money and has achieved those big money goals
    • Ensuring we still go out to dinner and take vacations while we're pursuing big goals like paying down debt

Taylor posts regularly about her journey on her blog and on Instagram @socialworktowealth. She's also the co-host of the podcast Social Work to Wealth.

  • Forget about Resolutions--Focus on Creating Your Vision for the New Year instead with Mary Polanco
    Dec 31 2024

Forget about making resolutions for the new year, and create your VISION for the new year instead.

Mary Polanco, leadership and resilience expert, author, and United States Air Force veteran, joins me on this episode to talk about harnessing something far more powerful, impactful and creative than resolutions to create the life we want--our VISION.

Resolutions perpetuate the idea that we, as individuals, are problems to be solved--rather than creative beings with choice and autonomy.

In this episode, Mary walks us through three steps we can take to create our New Year Vision:

    1) Throw away "all or nothing" thinking (it only sets us up for failure!)

    2) Sit down and write out your vision--be bold, be audacious (no one's looking over your shoulder!)

    3) Tap into the emotion of your vision (and give yourself permission to get excited about it...this is the glue that makes your vision stick!)

Mary shares the power of taking small steps in the direction of your vision and how to handle those little voice in your head that tell us we can't do it.

Get ready for an authentic conversation that will inspire you to build your best life.
